My teaching style is simple but effective. With mathematics and physics, the student retains an idea, with the added benefit of a solid intuition if he or she is fortunate enough to work through a problem using his or her's own insights. Guiding the student with the systematic offering of penetrating questions seems to be one of the most powerful methods to aid in the understanding of mathematical and physical phenomena.

I have recently "retired" my state certification (NH) for Secondary Education in Mathematics. I am currently an Adjunct Math Instructor at Hesser College, a division of Kaplan.

The hallmark of my teaching at Colby was my availability to students who needed academic help. I offered individual assistance to students during pre-arranged hours or when they simply dropped by my office. I found this type of contact with students to be particularly rewarding. My starting assumption is that any student can master any subject given sufficiently clear explanations and enough time to absorb the material. It is crucial to first find out what the student knows and what the points of confusion are. In the process, I encourage students to verbalize both their knowledge and their questions. A Little Bit About Me...

Most Math books recommend teaching for about half the class and then let students work some problems in class. I find this works well, it allows questions and the class becomes interactive. I encourge questions while I am introducing a subject and find it gives me a chance to use different examples to get a poinnt across. Any assignments I give outside the classroom can be addressed in the next class.
I started teaching right out of college. Taught high school and college part time for 6 years. Left teaching for the computer business where I worked for 36 years. Retired from HP in 2001. Went back to teaching. I taught at Mount Royal Academy in Sunapee, NH for 7 years. I taught College Algebra and Pre-Calculus at River Valley Community College i Keene, presently as an Adjunct faculty member.
