Math, Science & Microsoft Excel tutor

I have two technical-college degrees, I worked my way through both of them being a math tutor, and have used math and science in some way in every job I've ever held. As for my "teaching style", as everyone knows, it helps enormously just to have another person to work with, ask questions of, and generally talk things through. My comments on tutoring American History : I have a real passion for history. I prefer learning history through stories and relating to figures in the past, as opposed to rote memorization.

I have years of experience in varying forms of educations, but my most relevant is the two years (2012-2014) I lived in South Korea, teaching elementary and middle school students in English as a foreign language at a private academy. During that time period, I also tutored two adults in conversation, vocabulary, and diction. This experience led me to the decision to pursue a Masters in teaching, and until I complete that goal, I am going to keep my skills fresh with tutoring.
I prefer a very conversational approach with my students. The style encourages mutual respect and allows me to observe more closely how the student learns. In addition, I feel learning is absorbed better when the information is couched in a story, and I believe conversation is a style of storytelling.

I have done much sales and customer service work, as well as teaching. I think listening is key, recognizing the humanity in each person, and relating to it while communicating. In teaching, setting expectations is important... expectations of what the goal is; what they will learn, and then adapting it to the abilities of that individual. After completing my degree in 2007 at the University of New Mexico, I moved to Denver, CO and taught for one year at Morey Middle School. Since the school is only 5 blocks from the Capitol building and a multitude of museums and libraries, I was able to tutor a few students from the school in a real-world environment.
