I worked for 12 years as a Special Education teacher in the public school system, teaching students with ADD, learning disabilities, autism, Aspergers, emotional and behavior disorders, and mild intellectual disabilities in a resource room and inclusion setting. I am a middle school teacher. I began my career by teaching Special Education. After a few years I transitioned into the regular education setting. I am certified in Special Education, Reading, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Business Education. I have been at the same middle school for 9 years. I also coach the girls soccer team and volleyball team for our school.

My philosophy of discipline is simple: observe, take data and find the function of the behavior. When a student misbehaves in class there is an underlying reason. Every behavior has a function. The function can be to gain access to an item or person, to avoid doing the work or aggressive behaviors if they do not understand the assignment completely, medicine or personal affects (hungry, sleepy or thirsty). I also believe in “brain breaks”. My students take a break every hour to get up, walk around, listen to music and get the wiggles out.
