An experienced tutor who knows how to make learning fun!

I have over four years of experience as a reading tutor, two years as a behavioral assistant tutoring an autistic child in language, math, and reading, and am currently tutoring students in basic math and reading. I have volunteered in many hours in several first grade classrooms, and am currently in school to get a teaching credential.
My teaching style is playful. Students respond best when tutoring doesn't seem like work. As much as possible I turn lessons into games, taking what would be boring and making it fun.

I was a community college English teacher for 12 years at Vista Community College in Berkeley, CA (now Berkeley City College). I taught in a special program tailored to working adults who had returned to school in order to earn their Associate of Arts degrees. This was not an academically confident population. They required enormous encouragement, personal attention, and coaching. I was very successful in this position because I was willing to talk with students on the phone, meet with them after class, and even respond to their essays at length on cassette tapes--my own idea!

A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent college graduate, I was motivated to study Physics because I find the fundamental nature of the physical world fascinating. In addition to my B.S. in Physics, I also minored in Religious Studies and this course of study has enabled me to understand and communicate with people from a variety of different backgrounds. When I wasn’t in class I spent nearly 3 years doing particle physics research for CERN’s Large Hadron Collider, which I would work at in Geneva Switzerland during the summer. A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored math, biology and chemistry for the last 5 years at a college level. In math, I tutored up to the trigonometry level, as well as holding math seminars lasting as long as 2 weeks. In biology, I have tutored human biology, anatomy, physiology and microbiology for 5 years. In addition, I was offered a teaching assistant position for the lab portions of anatomy (which I did for three years) and microbiology (which I did for one year.)
