My comments on tutoring Chess : I have been playing chess since my childhood and I am good at it. During my college, I was a finalist in a chess tournament that was conducted on Hogwarts day. I played on the quad with students as chess pieces dressed in corresponding ones. I won all the qualifying games and lost against my Mathematics professor in championship. In my college, it is a glory for my friends to win against me. I play random and strategic. My random play is such that the opponent cannot predict my moves. If the opponent is playing with strategy, I deploy my defense strategy as well as offense. My favorite piece in chess is knight.

I involve students a lot during the learning period. I consistently ask them questions about the topic and let them think for a while. I give them as much information as possible so that they do not miss any information while solving problems. I make students write. That is how they learn. I consistently give students concepts and them demonstrate with sample questions.

My comments on tutoring Chess : I was taught chess at age four and have been playing ever since. I played throughout school but I have never competed outside of a school setting.

I have just finished law school. I grew up in Brazil as well as the United States which allowed me to become fluent in Portuguese as well as English without any accent. I enjoy computers and have learned many programs inside and out throughout my lifetime. Through college I took every computer class I could and even learned how to create a webpage using HTML formatting. I learned many skills as well to improve my chances of entering into Law School such as study skills and typing skills.
I like to formulate individual teaching styles based on my students. Not everyone learns the same and therefore I do not teach the same to each student. Sometimes students require my constant attention and encouragement. Other times taking a step back and explaining everything in depth and watching the student work is the best approach. No two students are alike therefore my teaching style is diffe ... read more

I believe that science has a undeserved reputation for difficulty as a subject that is directly related to the inability of many teachers to "break it down". Science can seem to be like a foreign language to the uninitiated, but at its essence science is simply a way of ... read more

As an accounting graduate and a college football player, I learned to have a good sense on how to study and hard work, both on and off the field. I had a great love for math throughout my schooling career and decided to go into accounting due to this. Even with a hectic schedule with football in college, I was still able to graduate exactly 2 weeks before 4 years with enough credits to be close to a finance degree as well. I took some graduate classes for my last semester and season before I left college. During this time in college I was able to tutor other players and students in Math and Accounting. I have had the pleasure of continuing tutoring in both of these subjects as well as individual taxes to people after college.

From my experience I realize that every student learns at a different pace. The tutor has to adapt their approach to suit the students needs. The first step is always getting their attention. I connect with the students and try to understand what motivates them. I encourage creativity and positive learning and life behaviors. I have a natural talent for reaching students of all ages. I especially am talented in simplifying complex material and helping the learner “get it”. I enjoy the positive response.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since choosing a career in education, I have been an enthused advocate, promoting opportunities for young people. I have gone as far as getting my Masters in Education Leadership. I also plan to get my PhD in the next couple of years. I have taken many workshops and trainings to become a more effective teacher.
My teaching style is somewhat unorthodox. I try to use as many styles as possible. I create activities and different opportunities for my students to learn so that they can achieve. I am a motivator and I try to relate real life experiences so that my students will see the benefits of education. My ultimate goal is to become a teacher who is effective at teaching to every type of learning style.

A Little Bit About Me...

In my opinion my teaching would have to be considered unique. Usually I teach math in laymans terms and use analogie that students can relate to. Once the student understands the concepts I can then express the same ideas in the more rigorous mathematical terms. I also teach so that the student becomes active in his or her learning experience. I try to help the student to realize that math is not as difficult as it is made out to be. Over the course of my tutoring career I have employed a strategy of helping the student to understand more of the mechanics of mathematics and depend less on shortcuts that do not foster learning or, even worse, do not work. I would say that I have a great deal of patience and understanding. I realize that it is very unlikely that students will grasp the new concepts immediately, let alone several new concepts, and so repetition occurs often. Althoug ... read more

As a substitute teacher, I experience all types of students. One thing is common in all of them; they want to know they matter. I use this as a means to find a particular interest and weave it into the lessons. Once the interest is peaked, engagement will follow. I love to see students when they discover the ‘aha’ moments in their learning. Not all students learn at the same pace, so I am patient and encouraging. My goal is to get them to believe they can achieve anything and go for it.
My first experience as a tutor happened my second year in college. She was an elementary student with behavioral problems. After four sessions, I resigned from that position. A month later, I found out that she was autistic. She taught me a very valuable lesson. Before I can tutor, I must first understand what kind of learner the student is. Although, I did not pursue a teaching degree, I have tak ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My goal for all my students is to achieve success in their learning and to recognize in themselves that they are capable of that success. With that in mind, I seek to lead and guide the students into not only discerning the answers for themselves, but to learn the method by which they can continue that success on their own. I believe that it is the teacher's responsibility to not just teach to each student's learning strengths but to also help them strengthen those areas in which they struggle.
Even before I became an educator, I had the heart of a life-long learner. I believe I was called and gifted to be a teacher and to try to impart a love for learning to my students. I have a BA in English and French, and an MA in French Literature. In my 18 years of teaching experience, I have taught a wide variety of subjects (English, Spanish, French, Social Studies, Math) in mostly small s ... read more

I believe that paitience, discipline, and focus on the part of the student and the teacher/tutor results in consistant success as a students attempts to learn and achieve. Although I do feel that conventional methods of teaching are still effective, I also believe that implementing audio visual aids, as well as hands on learning are also productive teaching methods. Supplemented with the reward merit system, I have found these approaches to be successful. Every student has the ability to learn if someone is willing help them. Moreover, I am a firm believer that positive reinforcement is an essential part of the learning process. Any student who has confidence that they can learn and achieve will learn and achieve.

My teaching style is conversational and generally straightforward. I work through translators, so it is important to keep a positive presentation style to avoid misinterpretation and miscommunication. After each segment, I ask the students if they have any questions or concerns. The students are also invited to stop me at any time to ask me questions. I also like to provide visual demonstrations on a white board, which helps me to explain my point in further detail. I provide all my students with my Powerpoint presentation translated into the Bhutanese and Burmese language so that the students have a guide for future reference. My goal is to help the students to understand the U.S. banking system in general, and to overcome any fears or hesitations that they may have about opening a checking account. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed teaching at any level. One of my strengths is to recognize the personality of the student and contour my style to that particular personality. In a class room setting, I would focus on a student that I feel is shy and afraid to speak. I would gently get them involved with simple questions to build their confidence so that others in the same realm would understand and overcome the fear associated with participation and become involved with the existing interaction.
As a Facilitator for Western/Delta Air Lines, I was sent to a Training Mapping class in Los Angeles, Ca. to master writing training materials based on the Fogg Index of the trainees. I have also been a Substitute Teacher in the Fayette County School system from 2003-2008 in various grade levels (kindergarden to High School.
