I am a graduate of BS Mathematics and currently pursuing my master's degree. I have also been a lecturer for a year right after graduating. I am also a tutor in a tutorial center here in the Philippines. I teach high school and elementary students in almost all subjects but my expertise is on Math. My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : You need to know your basic if you are tutoring calculus

Have a PhD in organic chemistry. Have been teaching assistants in almost undergraduate level chemistry classes (general chemistry, organic chemistry, and analytical chemistry) during graduate school. Have more than 13 years tutoring experience. Paid my undergraduate college education through tutoring and scholarships. My strongest subjects are chemistry and mathematics.
I would like to explain a global picture of a class material, what to expect from learning the class. All of this is not to scare students, but to mentally prepare them with the challenge ahead. I like to give my student quizzes after the tutoring, just to make sure they understand. This is a feedback process, so I could adjust my tutoring style accordingly.

I am a very interactive teacher. I want feedback so I can see the progress the student is making. If they are not getting something, I make adjustments and change tactics. I teach tot he student(s). Everyone learns differently. And sometimes by the time I get to them student, it has nothing to do with their ability but more their confidence because of previously bad experiences.
