A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught as a private tutor French language to several immigrant students in India who had applied to immigrate to Canada. In India, I worked as a trainer and taught French to S/W developer/bankers, call center agents, and other inetersted group of people. I have also taught a few semesters in local universities before starting a full time job in International Business Affairs. I am the fourth generation in my family in this profession and possess a deep passion to continue teaching part time.
I am very keen to understand the learning style of the student and adjust my lessons accordingly. To me, it is essential to involve the students in the lecture as much possible and make the lectures as interesting as possible.

During my time at the University of Missouri-Columbia, I earned two degrees: a BA in Philosophy and a BA in Theater. I also took many writing classes, focusing on different types of creative writing, from fiction to poetry to playwrighting. When I graduated in 2002, I spent several years in Barcelona, Spain working with college students. During that time, I tutored students in both English and Spanish, and several times taught introductory Spanish courses to students involved in summer exchange programs.

In addition to my formal education, I have extensive experience in government relations and health care policy, this broad experience has allowed me to effectively teach a variety of subjects at an undergraduate level. I have taught classes in public administration, public policy and grant writing but also have taught both micro and macro economics, American government and basic web design.
I believe that effective teaching should stimulate critical thinking skills. I like to use the Socratic method of teaching by asking students questions. In my classes I frequently ask students .."what do you think?" as a means for them to share their ideas with other students and stimulate new ideas. Education should be more than rote memorization, but rather a gaining an understanding of concepts and being able to apply those concepts in a real world context.
