Effective teaching requires clear instructing. I attempt to break each assignment down to its simplest level. Ideas must be transformed into practical, relevant information that enable students to make difficult concepts easy to understand and comprehend. It is the only way to appreciate the rote and, in the end, capture the essence of the subject matter. Simplicity has been a key to my success as a teacher.
Having grown up with a family of educators, there was never any doubt I would become a teacher. I hold a MS degree in Educational Administration and a BS degree in English and have taught 26 years of high school, primarily seniors. In addition to classroom teaching, I have taught numerous ACT prep classes evenings and was a tutor for Sylvan Learning Center. I have more than 5 years experience as a substitute teacher at almost every level. I have had the opportunity to also serve as a long term substitute teacher. I also have 1 year of experience teaching at a pre-school level, 2.5 years teaching at a post-secondary level, and a semester of tutoring a middle school student. I have also taken course work in Differentiated Instruction. All of these experiences have given me the skills needed to be a successful teacher. Teaching at several levels allows me to adapt my teaching to the learning level of the student.
