I am blessed to have attended a college that prepared me for real world situations and classroom circumstances. I have achieved two bachelor's degrees, a BS in bible and a BS in elementary education. I have also achieved a master's in holistic education. These degree programs provided me with a grasp of all subject areas in the elementary portion of schooling. I have also had the pleasure of tutoring many athletes at both the college and middle school level. I have tutored in subjects ranging from math and science to history and literature.

I find that there is something fascinating that we encounter on a daily basis. I enjoy bringing those events to light, and fostering student interest in the world around us. Whether it is a physical phenomenon, an inquiry into a scientific question, or a piece of literature, I believe that the relationship that is developed between the material and the learner is the tool through which real learning occurs. I worked for 16 years as a high school science and math instructor at a small school which necessitated that I teach all the courses in the 9-12 curriculum in rotation. These courses included all levels of mathematics, biology, chemistry and physics. I qualified to teach AP courses and wrote a number of integrated curriculum for my school district. I also tutor in the school's tutoring center because many of the students need the additional assistance.

I love teaching both school-age students and adults. I believe the three most important qualities a teacher can bring to a student are expert skills in the areas being taught, patience, and optimism. I truly believe all students can learn, and I provide a safe atmosphere that encourages risk-taking (the willingess to make mistakes for the benefit of learning), exploration and expansion of background knowledge, and the progressive acquisition of new material. In working with students one needs to have the ability to connect with that student at their level of understanding. This can be different for every student, and the tutor needs to adjust to the student. A tutor has to be able to do this or the student will not be any better off. It is my firm belief that I need to find a way to connect with each student, and find a way to help them understand what they need to learn. Very often in a school setting it is not only the subject matter that can give students a tough time, but a lot of times it is that the student either freezes on tests and quizzes or may not have good test taking skills, and sometimes this needs to be learned as well as a particular subject.
