A Little Bit About Me...

My style tends to range based on who I am trying to teach, and I suppose is most accurately labeled as adaptive. I understand that different people learn things in different ways, and so I try to accommodate that with my teaching. For instance if I found that a student learns better visually then I would attempt to use visual cues and examples in lesson plans to make the material as easy to understand as possible. I also believe in keeping a very loose and pleasant atmosphere, and making sure that everyone feels comfortable and safe, which I believe also assists in the learning process.
My first major mentoring/teaching experience occurred in college when I began leading study groups and eventually organizing tutoring sessions with a number of my fellow English, Calculus, and Physics students. I feel that the most important step to being an effective teacher is to make the material relevant. If the student does not see a relevant reason to learn the material, the learning curve will be much steeper. Then, I work hard to be sure the student understands my commitment to partner with him/her in the learning process, and that process is a two-way street. And, once I've determined the method of learning that works best for a student, I design the material to accommodate that method. Once these goals are met, success is assured.

I took education certification courses and passed the state exam for the State of Florida for middle school and high school English. I was an instructional aide for Adult Education at Martin County where I tutored in spelling, grammar, literature and prepared adults for the G.E.D. I have teaching experience in all areas and with students of all ages form being a substitute teacher. I returned to the work force recently from being a stay at home mom.
