A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching philosophy is to get students to think about science as a process, and to individualize their learning experiences. I prompt them to “why” and “how” questions at every stage.
Progressing through graduate school and working as a undergraduate student demonstrator allowed me to define learning as a personal process of growth. Being able to ask questions and actually attempt to answer those questions was extremely motivating. Involving and motivating students presents its challenges, but my goal of individualizing learning creates an open and comfortable environment where students can feel free to ask questions, make mistakes, and challenge themselves. It is by breaking down the barriers to learning that students can face their own misconceptions.

Pittsburgh Tutor/Teacher

I prefer to incorporate student participation as much as possible instead of giving lecture-style instruction to learn their unique learning styles and to understand more about my students. With this understanding, I will be able to understand how I can better instruct them and test them on the material being taught.
I have studied the indicated fields for over two years at high school and university levels. Also, I have taught English as a Second Language as an intern while studying abroad in London for one semester. For this position, I taught from self-made exercises, lesson plans, and individualised activities focusing on English comprehension, writing, communication, grammar, and literature.

As an undergraduate I formally tutored fellow students in several subjects, including biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics (from basic algebra to calculus). As a graduate student, I mentored several undergraduate students in the laboratory. Some of these experiences culminated in presentations of data at national and international scientific conferences. This trend continued when I became a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard, where undergraduates spent a summer in the laboratory learning about scientific exploration. During the past year I taught an undergraduate course (Brain and Behavior) at the University of Pittsburgh, which was a very rewarding experience. I look forward to the opportunity to help others achieve what they may have thought impossible, and providing them with the sense of confidence that comes from mastering material.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with an AB in Chemistry, from a top college in the country, which has helped me gain a better understanding of mathematics and the physical sciences. I have learned from writing countless lab reports and term papers, in many different areas of study, the importance of grammar and research before one begins a project. I have mentored children throughout community organizations, helping them with everything from homework to life’s problems.
My teaching style would focus on making sure that all children understand the basics of what they are doing before they can proceed to a more difficult level of study. A strong foundation is the best way to achieve excellence whether studying basic Algebra or Advanced Inorganic Chemistry. I believe in teaching through all different means from lectures, to hands on projects, to outings that are focused on the field being studied. ... read more

In my experience tutoring and training students, the most rewarding moments are those in which understanding of a subject becomes a reality. I work hard at trying to find those moments with my students, explaining the subject through different approaches and providing diverse examples to face abstract concepts. I believe in rewarding the effort of the students, establishing a constructive relationship in which the student is not scared of admitting lack of knowledge, encouraging the student to ask questions, developing an inquisitive reasoning. An inquisitive and reasoning mind will provide the student with the tools needed to face any struggle in his instruction.
I pursued higher education to the Ph.D. level, most of my experience is based in research but I had the great pleasure of working with students privately and in the University environment. As a private tutor I taught Math ... read more

During my current job I have learned that each student has the potential to be successful. The means by which he or she achieves success, however, can be very different. My objective is for students to realize their full potential. Students need to believe in what they are learning and make it their own. By allowing student choice, they are more involved and more likely to remember what they are learning. I have come to realize that education is vital for the success of young people and I take great pride in being a teacher.
I began my educational career at Duquesne University where I received my BA in Mathematics. After deciding teaching was my passion, I applied to the Master of Art in Teaching program at Kent State University. A Little Bit About Me...

I earned my Ph.D. degree in Chemistry from University of Pittsburgh. During my tenure there I taught chemistry to freshman, juniors and seniors. I have also had chance to be involved in training younger chemist to teach. The sum of these experiences has helped shape the attitudes, belief and approaches that I bring into my teaching today.
One of the very valuable lessons that I learned from my mentors and my own teaching experiences was to understand how people learn. Each student has his/her needs and responds to different styles of learning. As one of my teaching objectives, I want to accommodate every student and create learning path which helps students enjoy learning without getting frustrated. From my personal experiences, I recognized that students learn most from a teacher who is approachable and creates a comfortable environment conducive to learning.
