A Little Bit About Me...

I have over 10 years of experience in the education field with a special love for tutoring Mathematics. My experience is extensive as I ran my own tutoring business for 3 years doing mostly freelance work in college. The unique thing about my experience is that I have tutored ages 8-28 through my many recipients. I have a knack for getting children and adults excited to learn whether it is through motivation outside the subject area, or showing them that they can in fact do this.
My teaching style is upbeat and positive. If I cannot be excited for my subject areas. Why should any student I tutor?

More About This Tutor...

I have been tutoring almost all of my life, beginning in 5th grade when I tutored a special needs student in spelling. In junior high school, I began regularly tutoring mathematics to other students and have continued doing so to this day. While in college, I was employed as a tutor for my college as well as several community high schools. As a tutor in college, I worked with a student who was blind and 95% deaf to teach her algebra 1 and 2. She successfully completed both subjects with an A! Upon graduation, I have worked as an independent contractor for 12 years tutoring all levels of math to all level of students in the Richmond, VA community. After working with students, their grades have improved dramatically. I have found that some students just need the information relayed to them in a different way than the teacher taught and need the one-on-one attention to improve confiden ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I earned my BS in Chemistry with a GPA 3.57. I then took the GRE and ACS entrance exams for graduate school, I passed all four division with 20-60 percentile of the national avg. During my undergraduate education I was a tutor and earned level one training certification. In graduate school I instructed lab courses and tutored in a learning center several days a week. I am well experienced and qualified for tutoring any undergraduate and lower level chemistry courses; I have earned several A's and B's at the graduate level.
I do not know what my teaching style is. I have instructed large groups and had one on one learning sessions as well. I have dominated the communication time and I have been a listener. I have out right provided examples and I have merely provided encouragement for a student to continue their thought process. I believe everyone learns differently and therefore it ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Post-pubescent persons have a great capacity to learn abstract material; all that is necessary to open that potential is to motivate them. I do not specialize in that motivation. I do, however, excel at taking a puzzled student and explaining the difficult material in a way that makes sense to him or her. Mnemonic devices, simplifications, and advanced tools contribute to progress for any student of mine.
As a typically destitute college student, I chose to supplement my income with the knowledge I knew best. This covered non-biological sciences and mathematics, as well as conversational Spanish and English literary composition up to the sophomore college level, Over the last five years, though the three years of my undergraduate education were the most busy, both peers and high school students took advantage of my services.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a great deal of passion for teaching. When educating a person of any age, I make it my goal to create an experience that is as intellectually fulfilling for them as it is for me. I encourage questions at all times and push students to not only think about what they are learning but why they are learning it. Whenever we learn we should not only learn new information but we should improve upon the way we learn and the way we look at the world. I always consider it a privilege to work with someone in order to help them obtain such an achievement.
In the course of my education and professional career I have always found myself attracted to positions where I am passing on knowledge and skills to others. During my education at JMU I learned various skills in the area of scientific research, mathematical analysis, and the extensive writing skills that allow one to express their acc ... read more

I have earned a B.S. in mathematics. While attending Virginia Tech I would regularly tutor fellow students taking courses that I was in or had currently taken. That experience teaching led me to pursue a position teaching after graduation. I taught Algebra II, Calculus, and Computer Science at a high school in Northern Virginia for a year and a half before deciding to go to law school.
Math is a different subject than most as it builds upon itself. When teaching a higher level math I like to start with a review of the lower level math used in the process prior to explaining the more advanced procedure. I am also not a component of calculators. I first show a student how to do the procedure without a calculator then after they have mastered the process I will show them the calculator method.

After being a mentor for two years and the leader of different study groups for different age levels, I have learned that everyone learns differently and at a different pace. My display of patience, persistence, and constructive suggestions, make it easy for children and fellow classmates to learn at a level in which they are comfortable. My organized, honest, and straight forward teaching tactics make it easy for children to understand that education is important and I can encourage them to learn.
As a Cum Laude graduate of VCU, I achieved my academic goals with a major in chemistry and a minor in mathematics. My college experience have been an amazing one. As a mathematics major with a minor in biology, I feel like I have gained a lot of knowledge that will help me in the rest of my educational career. Being a mathematics major has helped me learn how to solve and understand complicated maths problems. I have also gained a lot of knowledge in the computational field that I know will help me in the real world. I spent most of my college years volunteering and tutoring students from first graders to twelve grade in mathematics. One of the most wonderful experience in my college career was spending the last two years as a Teaching Assistant for students taking contemporary college algebra here at VCU.
Being a teaching assistant at VCU for two years, I have mastered the basic and most important skills required of a tutor or any teacher. My number one motto when it comes to teaching or tutor ... read more

I used to be a Math Tutor at Lorain County Community College. With a strong mathematic background, I was able to tutor students in all levels of college mathematics. During my undergraduate, I took many high level math course for an engineer such as Calculus I, II, III, IV and linear algebra. I graduated from Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio) in January 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineer. In the junior year of my undergraduate, I had an opportunity to coop at DePuy Orthopaedics Inc., a Johnson and Johnson Company. As a student of the top-ten colleges in biomedical engineering education, this precious opportunity not only challenges my education, but also helps me to accumulate new knowledge about industrial engineering and R&D. I have earned a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering and working on my Master's degree in Engineering Management. Both degrees have helped me gain knowledge in math, science and in information technology. My grammatical skills are good due to writing a lot of research papers and lab reports. In my spare time, I had help other friends in the subject of math of different levels, from college algebra to Calculus III.
I love teaching. Whenever a friend needed help, I was always there to help them out with their school work. I am a good tutor and I'm patient and considerate. My goal is always to make sure that they understand the subject rather than just having them complete homework.
