Reading is one of my top subjects! I love reading. I'm a very avid reader and tend to be able to finish a 500 page novel in less than a day if I'm passionate about the reading material. My boyfriend also has dyslexia when it comes to reading and I helped him conquer his fear of reading and he's improved in his reading abilities a lot.

I believe we can only help those who wish to help themselves. My teaching style is pretty straight forward - to make the child/teenager want to learn. Make the subject matter interesting to them and approach it from their perspective. If you motivate them to make the effort the rest will happen naturally.
I graduated from Washington High in 2006 with my High School Diploma. From there I went to Worwic Community College part time while working full time to pursue an Associates of the Arts in General Studies. This degree was completed in 2010. After that I moved on to Salisbury University to pursue a Bachelor's Degree with a dual major in History and Psychology with Minors in Philosophy and Women's Studies. As a college English professor and high school English teacher with an MA in English, I have had the opportunity to help many young people improve their writing and critical thinking skills. I have also tutored students from middle school to college level English on many occasions. I can help students at all skill levels become better writers and thinkers.
My teaching style is best described as modern Socratic method. Questioning to elicit critical thinking is the essence of education. Many of my students have thanked me in later years for teaching the principles of clarity, simplicity, brevity and humanity in writing, as those principles haave led to job promotions and advanced degrees.

As stated above I enjoy working with children of all ages, I have made a difference in their lives as well as them making a difference in my life. I love the many challenges that teaching brings, and believe its a very good experience to discover. I like to use my learning structure to assist in tutoring and making a difference in children to better their education and future.
As a graduate I have done tutoring to enhance my credibility to teach possibly in the future with my major in criminal justice. I'm currently enrolled for my Masters in criminal justice and criminology, and I plan to futher my education to teach within that field. I am presently working as a high school instructional assistant and have been since 2008. For the past two summers, I have also had the opportunity to work for the summer school program, assisting students in the algebra classroom. I had my first full year teaching experience as a seventh grade special education teacher, during the 2007-2008 school year. So far, I have accumulated 15 credits in the Reading Specialist Masters Program, and am working towards certification. My highest level of completion is a BS degree in Secondary Special Ed.
