I taught English to low income Brazilian students in Sao Paulo Brazil's largest favela for 4 years in high school. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style with my own children is conversational, hands-on, and intuitive. I explore what most captures their attention, then weave in the lessons by using any available teaching aids, such as whiteboard drawings, to illustrate a point, literally.
My German parents spoke (so-called "high", or proper) German at home in NY/NJ, which came in handy after we moved overseas when I was 13. Repeating 7th grade, I learned to read and write German fluently, as well as master the local dialects and sundry colloquialisms without a lingering accent. Doing so allowed me mask my heritage, enroll in higher education, and learn a trade, culminating in a long and rewarding all-encompassing painting career abroad and in the eastern US, before settling in Texas to explore telecommunications. I widely regard the world as a large classroom/laboratory.

My teaching style is based on the student’s learning style. Each child is different and may require different teaching methods to facilitate learning. Some children are more visual and may require more interactive exercises to learn. I do not believe in spoon-feeding information to children but taking the time to ensure that they fully grasped the concept of a problem and are able to think through a solution on their own. It's better to get them speaking and writing and build their confidence than to just use rote memorization or drills. If I think the audio-lingual method will help a more advanced student, I suggest and practice this method with them.
