Before I changed my major in college to accounting, it was early education. I worked overseas on a military base as a special assistant/tutor to a young girl who had spina bifida. I was able to help her improve by two grade levels in less than one school year. I ended up changing my major to accounting due to the problem of finding the classes while overseas that I needed to complete my major in education. My German parents spoke (so-called "high", or proper) German at home in NY/NJ, which came in handy after we moved overseas when I was 13. Repeating 7th grade, I learned to read and write German fluently, as well as master the local dialects and sundry colloquialisms without a lingering accent.
