I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I am a very avid learner and have earned two degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: a BA in psychology and a JD. I taught science classes to children ages 4 - 12 during my law school career. I tutored elementary school students in basic math, grammar and science during my last two years of undergraduate work. I strongly believe in allowing the student to learn through their own will and with their own techniques, I try to just be the vessel that allows them to get to this point. I have worked in Montessori type schools where learning is a self-discovery and a journey. I try to find a way to make the subject interesting in a specific way for the student to allow them to want to learn, and getting excited about succeeding.
I studied Art History at Florida State University, which required a number of essay and extensive seminar classes, which taught me different ways to complete 10-20 page papers. I have worked teaching children in many different environments, in a preschool, Boys and Girls club, and at their homes. I believe that the best way to learn is by repetition and not being afraid to make mistakes. This is especially important in language acquisition as many students are afraid of making pronunciation errors. I believe in making this practice and experience enjoyable so that both student and teacher can put in the necessary hours for real learning to happen.
As the founder and president of UNCA French club 2008 until 2010 I enjoy helping others with the French language. I am also a member of Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor society's chapter at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. A Little Bit About Me...

I think that in today's public education system, with ever-growing class sizes some students get thrown to the wayside. These students need a more personalized learning plan that offers them head-to-head or small group discussions. I can relate to the child who remains silent because he doesn't think his question is smart enough. Subsequently, that child starts getting left behind little by little until they feel completely lost and abandoned and become disillusioned with the whole education system. My hope is to convince some of these children that they can make their educations work for them and maybe even become the child in class that begins to want to help others learn and grow.
