A Little Bit About Me...

My easy going nature and fun personality allows me to make learning interesting. I have always believed that the best way for someone to learn is to put the information into terms that are understandable to them. In the past I have used illustrations, acted out scenes from battles, utilized initialisms, and made up songs to help students learn concepts. Connections between the content and familiar concepts are essential, and thus I find it very important to get to know the student and how they learn in order to best help them. I like to ask questions and get the student involved. I like to get the student engaged as much as possible. I would like to observe the method in which the student obtains the most information and expound on that variable, triggering many senses for better memorization. My teaching style would consist of trying to get the student to understand what they are studying which is considerably better than just simple short term memorization.
I earned a well rounded education from Western Kentucky University with a strong emphasis in math / Engineering. Since College I have pursued the Surveying field. I have recently obtained the status of Professional Land Surveyor with the State of Kentucky. I have taught young graduates surveying practices in relation to the Engineering field while in management positions. I would be very excited about teaching children.

I have learned extensive grammatical skills through my school's intensive general studies program. It is very important to assess what the student already knows and the level of understanding they hold at the beginning. It is also important to make sure that what they know is correct and that they are not confused or misunderstanding the material. After which, getting to know the individual style of learning for each student will insure that time is used efficiently and that the student is understanding and retaining the material being taught. Working one-on-one is the best teaching method; however, when that is not possible, working in small groups is also very effective.

A Little Bit About Me...

The key to being a good teacher is being patient. I believe children learn best in a positive and stress-free environment. When a child does good on the work then I praise them and if they make a mistake then I explain to them the error in the homework. When I was a small child, I remember my teacher being patient and helping me along the way.
