As a private teacher of violin and piano for four years, I enjoy helping students grow in their musical abilities. I have students from ages four to fifty two. I have a minor in music from the University of Nevada Reno. During my schooling at the university I received education in teaching development, music theory, sight singing, and music history. I also experienced performing in the University Orchestra, and taking private lessons both piano and violin from professional musicians. I love teaching and working with children and also adults. I usually start by teaching the general mechanics of the instrument, demonstrating the different features of the guitar and how they work. I believe that it is paramount that students learn how to tune their instrument before they can play it. I show them the techniques of working the fretboard and how to produce a proper tone. I will then assess the students knowledge of basic music theory and proceed based on that knowledge. My background is in music. My first formal training started taking piano lessons when I was eight years old. During my junior high and high school years I was in the band. My primary instrument was the trumpet. I also studied vocal music and took some classes in basic music theory. When I was seventeen years old I learned the guitar. I am self taught on that instrument and have played it daily for thirty two years. I started performing professionally in local bands

I have the ability to work with diverse students of all ages and levels. Whether the student is 15 or 50, I can help the him/her learn and feel comfortable around me. I possess the rare gift of patience which allows me to work with even the least confident student, or the most rambunctious! My teaching style aims at explaining and discovering the simplicity in every subject.
