Teaching is the business of taking a student from one place to another. Once in a classroom I realized that I was meant to teach. I love working with students who are challenging and those who challenge me. I believe that I can become a better teacher only by continually challenging myself and my students. The key phrase “engaging students” seems less than what is required in the classroom. I want my students to be engaged but I want them to encompass and enjoy what they are doing as well. I love technology and new method topics; I have a very strong math and science background as well as excellent written and verbal presentation skills. I was a hands on learner and often use hands on methods to teach when possible. I have taught every level from kindergarten to college level and feel comfortable doing so.

The very first task is to assess the student's age and learning style. Once this is determined I select the teaching style to best accomodate the student's needs. Although I have used Expert and Formal formats, I prefer to incorporated Personal and Facilitator styles. Personal establishes a prototype for how to think and behave. It oversees, guides, and directs by showing how to do things. Facilitator guides and directs students by asking questions, exploring options, suggesting alternatives. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2007 from SUNY Brockport with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, English and Special Education. I have worked as a substitute teacher in all grade levels and in all subject areas. I have been accepted into a high degree Masters program but feel I need to have a job to justify the repayment(s) of additional student loans that would be needed to finish my MA.
