Geography is one of my top subjects!

Very relaxed, easy going, friendly. I feel less pressure and non stressful settings help students learn better. They can relate to a younger person who is more in tune with youth and someone who understands them.
I attended Rufus King World IB High school in Milwaukee, Wi, one of the most prestigious inner city high schools in the country. I excelled in IB Geography, Chorus, and Theatre. I was one of those kids who never did any homework, but passed my tests. Everyone came to me for help on projects, homework, ect. I feel that I didn't fully utilize my strengths in school as I could have, so I would love to share that with those who need it now.

I love to work with students of all ages. I am a patient teacher and try to tailor my teaching style to the progress of my student. I prefer to promote understanding through the use of work sheets, tutorials, and real world examples, rather then simply relying on memorization. I have a good sense of humor and believe that constructive learning environments are both challenging and light-hearted.
I studied creative writing at the SC Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville SC. There I studied poetry, play writing, grammar, editing, fiction, and creative nonfiction. After graduating with top honors from high school, I began my college career at the University of North Florida, receiving my BS in biology with Baccalaureate Honors in 2002. I began my PhD in Ecology at Old Dominion University in 2004, and after completing a 150 page dissertation on spiders and carnivorous plants, passing written and oral comprehensive exams, and completing over 72 hours of graduate coursework, I was awarded my PhD in 2010. I have won multiple teaching awards, including the 2009 Biology Dept Adjunct Professor of the Year at Old Dominion University.
