Hi! My name is Lauren Cotman. I am a middle school Spanish teacher in Chesterfield County. I have been studying Spanish since I was in the 6th grade and went on to become the President of the Spanish National Honors Society while I was in High School. While in High School, I developed a love for the language and all of the different cultures of the Spanish speaking world. I went on to major in Spanish at Bridgewater College and I was very active with the Latino population on campus and in the community. I went on to further my knowledge by studying abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico and in Barcelona, Spain. Over thirty years of college teaching experiences for a number of universities to include Florida Institute of Technology and Central Michigan University. The most recent contract was to teach MSA 600, Foundations of Research Methods in Adminstration for CMU at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Summer 2015. I also served as a trainer and training supervisor for over 20 years at the U S Army Quartermaster Center and School, Fort LEE, VA. From January to June 2015 I served as the Campaign Chair for the Living Our Mission Fund Drive at St Joseph Catholic Church, Petersburg, VA. We exceeded our campaign goal of $760000 by raising $1.075 million in cash and pledges.

I believe in the program of teaching across the curriculum. As a teacher to be, I believe that students are much more willing to participate in writing goood papers when it is in a subject that has meaning for them. If this is not possile, I take an approach to the topic in order to make it more interesting, especially when there are such good internet resources today. I enjoy instructing others, especially through the use of analogies and personal stories. Growing up in a very different, rural environment often provides me with various examples and personal situations that are often pertinent to the subject at hand.
