A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching to me is a vocation and not just a job. I enjoy helping children achieve their peek potential in the subject matter at hand. My teaching experience is mostly in private school settings and I taught public school for a year. I am currently waiting to be certified in Spanish in Virginia and will be taking the courses necessary to become a certified teacher in the near future. I truly believe in learning by doing. Being shown the answer never helps anyone. You must go through the process of doing to be confident in your abilities. I try to make the student feel as comfortable as possible with making mistakes. That's the whole point of studying, to improve. This requires a lot of patience and understanding of how the student views the assignment. Looking back the teachers that I learned the most from were the ones that kept my attention and had practical experience with the courses I was taking. I hope to emulate them in my tutoring.

I have a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from the College of William and Mary and will be returning to finish my Masters Degree at Georgetown University in January of 2011. I graduated with a 3.2 GPA from William and Mary and currently have a 3.7 GPA at Georgetown. During my time at William and Mary I worked as a tutor for Calculus, Biology and Chemistry. For the bulk of my academic and professional career I have mentored or supervised colleagues or post-doctoral fellows in the natural sciences. While I have obtained academic training in Chemistry and Biology (BS), Biochemistry (MS and Ph.D) and neuroscience (post-doctoral research) I have studied and utilized many additional areas of science including, immunology, molecular biology, organic chemistry, toxicology, epidemiology. I have tutored every year since 2004 in situations ranging from private tutoring of special needs students, tutoring under-privileged kids and gifted kids.
