I believe that children learn in a variety of ways and teachers are responsible for providing this variety. I like many teachers, have a constructivist approach. I also understand that students learn through various means and approaches, and teachers must be aware and knowledgeable of the means and approaches necessary to maximize learning and present proper accomodations when needed.

I recently received my Business degree from Ohio University. This degree enabled me to learn a wide variety of skills relevant to a number of industries today. I enhanced my grammatical skills due to the various projects and papers I had to complete while working towards my degree. Due to my enrollment in Post Secondary at Kent State University, I was able to graduate in three years. I have realized that my passion is not in Business, it is in helping others and becoming an educator. I am currently furthering my education as a student in the Notre Dame College TEEL program. I am working towards my Middle Childhood English and Math Licensure. I will graduate with this degree in the Winter of 2011.

When a question is asked, I am not going to simply just tell the student the answer. I would want them to think it out and try and figure it out for themselves. I would however guide them in the right direction and even ask them other questions they may know in order for them to figure out the intial problem. I feel that these types of interactions are a more effective way of learning. Also, writing things down helps tremedously because not only are you thinking it, but you're seeing it and reading it as well. I am a very easy person to get along with, and I am also very encouraging. I enjoy helping others whether it's in an academic environment or not.
Being in college for four years exposed me to social environments that I normally wouldn't have been able to encounter on a day to day basis. Whether I was learning on my own, working with or helping fellow classmates, or eve ... read more

I recently spent my final year in college employed by Ohio University as a tutor for athletes. I was paired with a young wrestler and my duties were to help him with all aspects of his studies. We covered courses including mathematics, finance, and economics. We generally met from four to six hours per week. Personally, I have earned degrees in mathematics with a concentration in actuarial science, as well as a degree in finance. I am an expert in calculus, statistics, and probability.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge and helping students understand mathematics. Math can be challenging, but when it is finally understood it can be extremely rewarding. I firmly believe that the key to mastering math is by repetition of examples rather than by studying complex theories. My primary experience is with young adults, and I am in my early twenties, so working with high school or college studen ... read more

I bring advanced college degrees, 20 years of real-world experience, and a deep insight into the barriers of culture, race, and language. I have a Bachelors degree(Chemical Engr.) and Masters (Chemical Engr. with Environmental Engr thesis). I passionately pursued a consulting career in environmental engineering for over 20 years serving federal clients. I honed excellent technical writing and public speaking skills. Specifically, I needed to convey complex issues to a wide audience in simple words. I taught math and science to my niece and her friends all the way through their high school years.
In physics, chemistry, and mathematics, I believe it is very important that the student must learn the fundamental principles and concepts for long-term retention and application. Therefore, my teaching style will be based on: "DID YOU GET IT?" and not based on "rote learning" or "gettin ... read more

I am an innovative, flexible, and patient individual. I am excited to work with students helping them to succeed in all that they do. I believe that every student can successfully learn different subjects if the material is presented to them in a way they can understand. Students vary in how they learn; some learn from reading and others from visuals. I will help to identify which style works best for the student and then tutor them using that style. Another strength of mine is my ability to take complex material and teach it in a way that makes the material easy to understand by simplifying the concepts. I thrive on seeing my students succeed.
I have always been interested in tutoring and helping students learn. In high school I tutored elementary students and high school students who were struggling with a variety of subjects. I love tutoring, as it helps me keep up-to-date with the material, and I enjoy seeing someone finally grasp a concept they had struggled with previously. I typically help a student by example, if applicable. In math courses, I find that working through problems with the student is best. For science courses, going over concepts in the chapters before doing problems works best. I also help the student take better notes in class and take better notes when reading the chapter.
I have recently received by BS degree in Chemistry from the University of Dayton. As a chemistry student, I tutored fellow college students in Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus. I frequently held Drop-In tutoring with the school's LEAD program. In addition, I would also do One-on-One tutoring when needed.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a background in physics (both theoretical and experimental). I spent 8 years at two different universities and earned 3 diplomas in physics (B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D.) all financed by scholarships. I spent two years teaching physics in Africa and also spent 2 other years working as a research scientist at a national laboratory in Europe. During my university years, I worked as a teaching assistant for student laboratories in physics and even did some one-to-one tutoring. All along, I admired my teachers and colleagues who always showed me something new to learn.
I like to use definitions and go to the fundamentals, all explained in a concise way. I therefore need to work with students to identify the difficulties they are having. I also like to prove things when possible. The secret of Calculus and Physics may be to do many exercises, I agree, but to show how to work the proble ... read more
