Gifted math tutor wants to help your student enjoy math!

I have a gift for working with students who struggle. I know where they are going to trip up and I am prepared to answer the questions that they do not even know they will have! I know at least 3 or 4 different ways to explain different concepts so if your student does not understand one way, I have another way. My comments on tutoring Algebra I : This class would have to do with things like systems of equations, etc. Even though I took these classes years ago, I still remember them as if I had taken them yesterday.

Depends on the needs of the student. In my first meeting with best friend's daughter, I gave her a sample quiz to fill out to gauge where she was. Then, we began to work through areas where she was having the worst issues. I focused on those and explained things to where she could better understand. I had her do homework then we went over it the next time we met. At the end, I had her take a comprehensive test over areas we had covered that helped to prepare her for the test. I worked with her closely and was pretty much hands on in terms of teaching style.
I don't have much experience in tutoring students. However, in what experience I have, has been limited to college students and my my best friend's youngest daughter. I always find myself trying to lead others to figure out material on their own as a I set guidelines for them as they do so. I believe this is the best way for them to learn the material. I do not like to tell my students the answers, inhibiting them from thinking things through. I try to find different ways of teaching material in order to keep them motivated, as well.
