My comments on tutoring Social Studies : The vast field of social studies is the extremely vital and underestimated realm of discovering who we are. Government, History, Geography, and the other fields help us understand the Whos, Whys, Hows, Whens, and Wheres that describe our existence. I am very proficient in many of the Social Studies fields, mainly history and Geography. I have placed 3 times in the National Geography Bee, and I took an AP class on History as well as two additional courses on world history and geography. I am in the process of taking and Advanced Government class as well.

Granted, I am still in school myself, however, I pride myself in exceptional achievements, and a mountain of sharable knowledge. I maintain a 4.0 GPA, and I take college classes as well. I lack teaching degrees and I lack diplomas in any field, yet I guarantee that in some fields -- History and Geography -- I know as much as a college graduate as I study, and have studied since a small child, those fields extensively in my spare time. I love to teach, the few opportunities I have had reaped great feedback and students who came to me personally saying they learned more than had previously. I have taught Bible Classes, Swimming Classes, Geography Classes, and a History class in the past. It is a thrill to teach and make sure that the best knowledge pegs itself into the minds of our populace. Teachers constantly applaud me on being conscientious, hard-working, knowledgeable, active, and ... read more

I feel that the biggest change for good that any one of us can make is in the lives of the children we find around us. I love teaching. I believe that any child can learn if given the right motivation, tools, and environment. The greatest success any teacher or educator can achieve is to have the child get excited about learning. I believe that in order to learn, students must be allowed to explore.
I am currently a student at Brigham Young University - Idaho where I am pursuing a degree in Biology with minors in Child Studies and Chemistry. This rigorous program has taught me the importance of fulfilling one's potential, the vitality of good study habits, as well as giving me an understanding of children and adolescents. The past two years I have participated in a youth summer program for high school-aged students. I was responsible for giving both formal and informal instruction ... read more

Probably my greatest gift that I've been given in this life is my love for people. I believe this love manifests itself through my teaching and makes me a unique educator. I am dedicated to my students and I glory in their successes. I know I've done my job right if my student begins to enjoy the benefits of hard work. Talents, knowledge and a thirst for knowledge are only acquired through diligence and persistence, this is something I have learned through studying piano and I strive to pass to my students.
I've gained experience with teaching in an array of ways. Firstly, I'm a recent graduate from BYU-Idaho in Piano Performance earning my Bachelor of Musical Arts. Throughout my training as a professional pianist I studied piano pedagogy and now have a functioning piano studio of my own. In addition, I was a music tutor and teachers assistant helping my fellow students grasp musi ... read more

Recently, I graduated with my BS degree in physics. This major requires a working knowledge of advanced mathematics, and its application to real life scenarios. Working in physics frequently requires learning complex concepts, and being able to explain those concepts to peers for feedback. My degree required I write a senior thesis. Working on my senior thesis helped me gain valuable writing and communication skills. Helping others understand math and science has become a passion of mine.
I specialize in math and science. These fields have complex ideas that I know are hard to approach as a student. Often times, students fail to see the real life applications of higher level math, and this can be a frustration. I emphasize the real life examples and applications of complex math and science. I believe anyone can understand math and science if they have a patient, understand ... read more

I believe in the Socratic Method. Through this tutoring method, the student is asked questions to help them develop understanding on their own. Through this discovery style, the students actually learn in ways that will be remembered most. I believe that any child, teenager, or adult can learn most effectively through their own discovery, with my help and guidance. I believe in having "ah-ha!" moments, and the feeling of relief and excitement when connections are made, and learning happens. That's what I want for my students.
My degree consists of two areas of emphases: English and the Humanities, with a minor in Dance. Through the course of my study, I have learned how to be a better writer, understand and appreciate literature, religions, and cultures of the world. For my last two years at BYU-Idaho, I worked at the university's Writing Center. There, I learned how to tutor on ... read more

I understand that every kid is unique and learns in different ways. I believe that in order to be a successful tutor one must possess more than just an adequate understanding of the subject matter. One must also be able to understand the student's situation, have superb communications skills, and a great sense of humor. I also believe that a tutor must be friendly, supportive, and be able to make learning fun. I am all the above!
I recently graduated from the University of Wyoming with a GPA above a 3.0. I have a degree in Biology and a Minor in United State History. While attending college, I helped tutor several different students who were struggling in General Biology and Physics. I also have two younger siblings who I have helped tutor all throughout their high school and college careers.

If they are willing, and if they are taught correctly, every child can learn. No two children are the same, and should not be taught as such. There are so many different ways to teach and understand a concept, and I try to search out the technique that best fits a child in need. I am a firm believer that there is nothing we “can’t do” if we are taught in such a way that we can truly understand. To turn on the light, you must simply find the right switch. I never let a student settle for less than they can do, but I do recognize when something is not working and techniques need to be changed. I am patient, fun, eager to teach and willing to learn.

Teaching college students has been very rewarding. I encourage active participation in discussion and groups. Each class is started with a question and answer period about any nutrition issue they might have. Most assignments have an aspect of self discovery so that each student can learn something about their nutrition status. Late work is not allowed and attendance is not taken; rather random "reflection" responses are asked to reward those that attend and to ascertain their understanding of the concepts discussed. Each student can excel when the effort is made.
As an adjunct faculty member at Brigham Young University Idaho since 1995 (it was then Ricks College), I have taught human nutrition, nutrition and the young child, introduction to foods, nutrition for the culinary arts majors, and various classes for the dietetic technician program. A Little Bit About Me...

Graduating from BYU-Idaho, I've learned that a quality education is of the utmost importance, not only for college-age students, but starting from infancy. I've earned my BS in Health Science, enabling me to have a greater knowledge of the health and wellness field in general. Also, I've learned to publish various professional research papers, adding to my grammatical, mathematical, and critical thinking skills. I also have a passion for languages--besides gaining fluent knowledge of Portuguese during my LDS mission, I've also learned Spanish and am currently learning Italian at home. During the last few years I've had several opportunities to teach and mentor people with my college internship, and leadership class work.

As a graduate of BYU-Idaho I have learned the importance of education and how blessed an individual is who pursues it. I have been been able to work with children and help with areas of struggle since last fall. The ages being between 4-14. I am currently a therapist for children and help them with day to day goals that they are trying to accomplish.
I love interacting with children and teaching them to the best of my ability. I know that each child is unique and you have to truly understand the child and the stresses and concerns they have with learning, before you can teach them. I have found much satisfaction from overcoming challenges. While in academic pursuits, many subjects may at first seem difficult. Such tough times are great opportunities to gain confidence by finding a personal path to clarity. By knowing where the student needs to get, I am able to encourage them to discover their unique way of understanding which often differs from their school teacher's instructions. I know that each student, with the right mixture of desire and encouragement, can acquire a command of any subject, however intimidating it may seem. I sleep well when a student's focused efforts have led to scholastic achievement.

I do not have a degree. I have been instructed by the teachers I have worked with. My style is to let the student know that they are to be attentive, polite, and to try their best to do the lessons. I tell them that I am there to help them and I do encourage them by rewarding with appropriate items. I have been raising a great grandchild, now 11 years of age. I adopted him at age 24 months. He has been diagnosed with ADHD, ODD, and Emotionally Challenged. I have learned a great deal working with the schools, teachers, PSR's and counselors. I believe I can be an asset as a reading tutor to children at all levels. I feel I have developed patience and skills needed to work with the children.

I believe that all kids have the potential to be incredible learners. I believe that in order to tap into that children and adults need to find their self-confidence. I try to help those I teach to realize their own success through achievement and building their confidence levels. My goals are to create an atmosphere of learning through understanding the needs of my students and then helping them to figure out how to accomplish their own goals.
I have had approximately one year of combined teaching experience. I have taught junior high and high school age kids. I have done student teaching as well as taught my own art class. I have also taught several years of adult religious classes.
