After graduating from Florida State University with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Marketing, I began a career in retail. I developed good listening skills as well as being able to effectively communicate information to clients. After 23 years in this field , I returned to the classroom and obtained my professional teaching certification in Social Science. I love children and believe in every students potential in achieving higher grades. I normally access their way of learning before engaging into the lesson. I believe lots of learning takes place when a student's full attention is there. So i always work on ways to capture their attention first. I have a laid back, yet no nonsense style of teaching that I believe works with most students. I am a friendly and supportive figure, but there is no doubt that I am the one in charge in the classroom or in a tutoring situation. I like for students to learn to think inside, outside, above, and beyond the box when they are trying to learn a subject. No one way is 100% correct, and if a child cannot learn one way, then there is always another way to process the information. Not all children will love to learn, but I do try to show them that they can respect the process, and use it to their advantage. In college I majored in Chemistry with a year in Physics and Biology. In High School I received the Chemistry Award. In college I gave drum lesson. I played for eighteen years. I was an art dealer for years and am very familiar with the various styles and periods of art which adds depth to the teaching process. First I try and determine what it is that the student does not understand. Next I try and evaluate the way the student processes infrmation so I can explain the problem adn solution 'in their language'.

I am very inspirational when I tutor, and I tend to get the children to try harder and to build on their self-esteem, which causes them to improve academically. I care about each child I tutor, and it goes beyond just money for me. I've been tutoring elementary school age children for 2 years, going on my third year now.
