Since November 2009, I’ve been teaching general biology at Logan-Hocking High School in Logan, Ohio. I have developed lesson plans, managed classroom learning, doing all the things any other science teacher would. In the summer of 2009, I worked in Albany, New York for the Albany Pine Bush Preserve conducting surveys in the preserve for the endangered Karner Blue Butterfly. All the assigned tasks required knowledge of general biology, especially in plant natural history. I graduated in May 2009 from Muskingum University where I obtained a B.S. in biology. I enjoy teaching and thrive on developing learning strategies. Every child/person learns differently, and discovering the right method is key to opening the mind to difficult subjects. One on one tutoring is the most effective way to develop communication necessary in order to learn. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching adults as well as high school students. I do not have much training teaching below junior high; however, I am confident that I could successfully teach math or language. Although, I don't mind the traditional classroom setting, I am quite used to instructing on a one-to-one basis. Our GED programs are completely individualized for learners to move at their own pace, and I encourage this type of teaching style when manageable. Many of the students/adults that I have worked with have a learning disability of some sort, but I feel that I learn from each student just as much as they are learning from me. I enjoy teaching and couldn't see myself doing much else.

I am a good listener and let the student tell me what problems they are having in any subject. I ask them questions to get them to think about what they're learning in depth. I let them explain things to me instead of just explain everything to them, this way I can find out what they already know and give them feedback so that they can improve on their weaknesses. I am patient with them and let them work at their own pace, never rushing them. I tailor my tutoring to each student's individual needs.
I tutored at Case Western Reserve's Center for Civic Engagement and Learning. I tutored kids of in middle school at the local library in all subjects. I have a bachelor's degree in biology and am in the postbaccalaureate program in nutrition.
