Environmental Journalist to help with reading and writing

I am an environmental reporter based in New York. My articles have appeared in New Scientist, Scientific American, Psychology Today, Popular Science, OnEarth Magazine and Smart Planet. I was also a copy editor with a large publishing house for two years where I used my spelling and grammar skills to fact check and proof read manuscripts. I love to travel and learn about people and the world and spent two years living in Paris, France where I was an English tutor to French children and adults. I also co-host a podcast about fairy tales called Tabled Fables. Each month we discuss a different tale to find out what the story means, how it's evolved and what makes it stick.
I like to help people learn about English by exploring their interests. For example, if you are a fan of economics we can read The Economist and discuss world politics. If you prefer to talk about animals we can crea ... read more

Drama is one of my top subjects! I earned a BA in Theater and Dance from Trinity College and have been performing and studying drama since I was a kid.

I have been performing since I was a kid. I started taking singing lessons from a Julliard graduate when I was twelve and have taken classes and workshops with Broadway performers and other industry experts. I have studied acting, play writing, and directing. I earned a BA in Theater and Dance from Trinity College and studied with artists-in-residence at the La Mama Theatre in NYC.
My teaching style changes depending on the student. One style does not fit all. I like to get to know my students as people and thoroughly understand their learning styles, wants and need. Communication and patience are key.

Italian tutor for all!

I have tutored many different kids and a few adults in english and italian, always with great success. i have also worked as a nanny and babysitter, which has trained me to be a very patient teacher and quickly understand students different ways of learning and comprehension. i enjoy helping others become more confident with a new language!
every student is different; as far as languages are concerned i believe people benefit more from actually speaking and listening, instead of learning a whole bunch of grammatical rules. those will come in time and a lot more naturally once you are confident with the words and their meaning.

Drama is one of my top subjects! I have a theatrical training program for young performers and have worked with young people in all aspects of theatre for more than twenty years...Theatre is transformative and can be a great learning tool in other subjects!

I am a Speech and Theatre educator with a strong background in English. I have worked with young people over the past twenty years and have been privileged to see many of them benefit from the Speech, Theatre and English training they received in my programs or by tutoring. In this era of instant communication, many of my former students have reached out to me to let me know how meaningful the work was for them and how it motivated them in their lives and helped them to find their true callings. For this, I am profoundly grateful.
Committed, engaging, appropriately direct, friendly but professional, caring, insightful, compassionate, skilled, motivating. I use appropriate humor and candor to motivate. I do have a behavior policy of mutual respect which sets a protocol and from which all parties mutually benefit.

Experienced and Proactive Educator

Experienced and New York State Certified teacher. I have over 10 years experience teaching students in grades 1-12 and 5 years experience teaching adults. I also have extensive tutoring experience. I have an MA from Marist College as well as a BA from NYU. I have designed and taught SAT prep classes (verbal/writing portion) as well as developing curriculum integrating diverse domains of knowledge to create a broad, deep and flexible learning experience for students.
I believe that competence and confidence are BOTH important in learning. Students bring their own knowledge and learning styles to the process. It is the teachers job not only to adapt instructional style to best support the learner, but also to help the student understand his or her own learning style and needs.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a first generation graduate, I am proud of my accomplishments, and I want to help others achieve academically. I recently graduated from University at Albany; I have earned my bachelors in English studies. I have taken English courses that not only taught me how to think and write critically but how to teach those skills to others. I have learned analytical skills, writing skills, and researching skills. During the summer, I worked as a volunteer at Peter Young Housing, Industries and Treatment where I tutored individuals in their reading and writing and helped prepare them for the GED exam. My experience have taught me patience and how to teach students with different backgrounds, personalities and learning disabilities.
I enjoy working with children and young adults. I believe any individual can succeed academically with encouragement, discipline, and hard work. I am willing ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I love teaching children of all ages. I believe that all children can learn. We, as teachers, just need to find the right way to reach each of our students as everyone learns in a different way at different speeds. This is why I like tutoring because I can devote one on one attention to the student I am tutoring for the day. I can tutor your child in all areas of the elementary curriculum. I am patient, easygoing and considerate. I want to make a difference in the lives of our children and give them the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
I am currently a teacher in my local school district. My experience is with students from Pre-k through grade 5. I specialize in children on the autistic spectrum and ADHD. I am currently tutoring a student with ADHD in reading strategies and spelling and decoding strategies for reading.

A Little Bit About Me...

I do enjoy helping anyone write a well developed and educated paper on the topic at hand. My specific style of teaching, especially for the 8th grade, is to read the current book being used, and then present my lesson with lecture, interactive discussion and comprehension, based on the age and grade of the student. I like to put the lesson into terms that the age group can relate to, and then assign a memory technique that will teach the students to recall the proper answer by using the examples we have discussed in class. That is the same method that I use myself when I need to write a paper. I read it, analyze it, comprehend it, and then write a paper based on what I can relate it too. This technique is very effective when teaching religion, and I have taught my students to use the same technique when attending academic study.
Upon my decision to return to college and obtain ... read more

Prior to that, I had several years of teaching experience as both a high school/middle school English and Social Studies. Later I taught 4 years of College English. Then I spent a couple of more years teaching high school English, in addition to spending one year tutoring students in SAT/Regents instruction. I believe in developing a rapport with students, treating them as equals in the learning process. I have skills and knowledge that students can access, freely providing them with the information they need to be successful. I am organized, prepared and set clear objectives in terms of what I hope to accomplish. I try to keep a sense of humor and make learning a fun activity.
