I first must one hundred percent become knowledgeable and comfortable with the material I will be teaching. I enjoy being able to personalize myself not only with the work but the students as well. I have been tutoring students of all ages for over 20 years. Subjects I have tutored include French, Spanish, Latin, English, and math. I have also taught at the high school level for seven years and at the college level for 20 years. I enjoy working with students to help them to achieve their goals. I am patient and flexible. Throughout high school and college, I performed at an academic level well above average. As a result, I often found myself helping my fellow students. As part of my graduate assistantship at Missouri State, I work in the math tutoring lab several hours a week, tutoring (primarily) algebra and calculus students. I also teach MTH 102, which is approximately equivalent to high school Algebra II. I also have a great deal of experience in history, literature, English, and the natural sciences and have helped other students in these fields in the past. I have children who are twenty one, seven, six, four, and two, as well as a granddaughter who is three. No two have learned in precisely the same way, and I have had to use multiple approaches to help them learn. I have also coached teams in five sports. I have spent a lifetime teaching kids to do things they never dreamed they could attain. I know that kids can learn anything they wish, and can become anything they wish. While working part time as a law enforcement instructor, I fell in love with teaching. I believe in engaging students in conversation and effectively communicating to them the need to learn and the pride that results in the achievement of learning. I am a retired law enforcement professional. I returned to college and earned a B.S. in Education in2004. Currently I am enrolled in a graduate program in leadership at Duquesne University and have completed 18 hours of that program. I will graduate with a M.S. in Leadership in December, 2010. I hope to enter the Doctorate of Educational Leadership at the University of Missouri in June, 2011.
