I currently teach high school science. In the past four years I have taught classes such as physical science (an introductory course to physics and chemistry), biology and anatomy & physiology. I currently have a BS in Animal Science and a Master's of Art and Teaching in General Science. I also hold certification to teach Biology in the state of New Hampshire. I enjoy teaching high schoolers for a variety of reasons. Mostly because of how honest I can be with them. I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I like to help define the topic in common terms, not the classic dictionary method. I use presentation, discussion, videos and hands on activities. Most of what I do is inquiry based. I have a passion for teaching but waited until I gained some "real world" experience. As an undergraduate at MIT, I have a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, and have complete master of those taught at the high school level. I have also completed several advanced courses in chemistry, biology, and physics, but am still young enough to remember the techniques I used to learn those subjects when I myself was a high school student. I have prepared many students (privately) for final exams in biology, geometry, and algebra. I have a knack for creating analogies and mechanisms to help students remember things for exams, as well as strategies and ways of thinking that may be a little different than what was taught in class (but still gets them to the final result). I find working with children rewarding. I am patent and understanding and cater to individual learning styles. I use my artistic sense to help students visually understand learning. I started out working as a Head Start teacher's assistant and the following year I was promoted to Head Start teacher and manager.
