After returning to college to get my teaching certificate I taught 5th grade for one year. I then taught at a high school in Salinas, California for four years. As an elementary teacher I taught all subjects except science. I taught various history and social studies classes to the high school students including World History, honors U.S. History, Psychology and Current Events. I left teaching in 1992 to attend law school but have volunteered as a mentor on several occasions which has allowed me the opportunity to tutor children in both elementary and middle school.
I enjoy learning and try to pass along some of my enthusiasm to my students. I will work with the student to find the best methods for us to approach the material so he or she will have the greatest success. I have recently completed my Masters degree in Public Policy from Oregon State University where I worked as a social science researcher with the department of sociology. I utilized several methods in my research, including both qualitative and quantitative research methods. I have extensive experience with SPSS and other statistical software in the analysis of quantitative data. Besides my graduate experience, I have a B.A. from Gonzaga University where I majored in Political Science and History. These concentrations have given me extensive writing, oral, and verbal skills.
I have a passion for higher education and helping young men and women reach their academic goals.
