I really like to work through a lot of examples because without practice it can be difficult to apply.

Every student is different. They all have different experiences and learning styles. Sometimes teachers can just try to explain concepts and ideas the way that they understand things. I like to first ask students questions to help me understand where they are, what they specifically do and do not understand. This helps me to figure out how to help the student. Also in my experience, teachers teach only one method of solving a specific problem and that way may not be easy for that student. I like to explain many methods so the student can choose the method he or she understands. Every student can achieve academic success. I tutored all through college. I have tutored one-on-one and small groups, and I have also been a TA and taught a few class periods. In addition i tutored a student in High School in several subjects. Most of my experience tutoring has been in math, physics and engineering, but I am also fluent in Spanish.
My teaching style is helping the student arrive at the correct solution. In problem based courses this is usually done through asking the student what they think the next step should be and guiding them through the process of problem solving. Once they start to understand problem solving then they do not only improve in the course that I am tutoring them in but in their other courses as well. In a nutshell I try to help students learn how to learn.

I have been a community college adjunct professor for the past 5 years, teaching physics and physical science. I have also tutored in the College Learning Center where I have helped students individually and in small groups in the subjects of physics, astronomy, chemistry and math. In my senior year of high school, I realized how much I enjoyed teaching and helping others with school work when I co-taught the AP Psychology class at my school with the head psychology teacher. After high school, I went onto college at Purdue University, where I studied psychology and minored in statistics. I have a very wide-ranging course history, including a number of graduate courses. After school, I was recruited to work at a camp, where I had my first experience with such large numbers of adolescents.
