Help for any English paper or project.

Statement of Teaching Philosophy for Teaching Writing I think that teaching writing should be both fun and educational. If you do not have the fun aspect in it you can lose students and not reach others. I believe it is important to be a positive model for my students. I want my students to know that what they write can be perfected and publishable. I want them to know that they never have to feel as if they are not good enough even if they do not know exactly how to get the words they want to say out. All it takes is practice. Even using a voice recorder to record your thoughts and getting feedback on those thoughts can make writing the best it can be. I, personally, have never taught a class. I was, however, a Teacher’s Aide at a school for special needs kids. I have also worked at a daycare where I was in charge of writing lesson plans every week. In both jobs I may not have be ... read more

I love to teach but primarily, I am a hands on teacher. Through my experience, I have learned the importance of reaching all types of learners. I identify my learners right from the beginning and understand if they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic learners. Based on my findings, I combine different teaching strategies. Many students struggle with a different language because they often compare it to their primary language. I try to make students understand that it is a language all on its own and we must not compare or judge, but embrace it and do the best we can to understand it and the cultures that come with it. I do my best to make the classroom environment safe and fun so students love coming each and everyday.

I served in the US Navy for six years after high school, providing me with a wealth of world experience. I subsequently obtained a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tennessee and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I worked for several years in chemical design at Oak Ridge's National Nuclear Security Complex. During my education and job experience fellow classmates and co-workers regularly came to me for help in their studies and tasks. I recently coached high school boys in my other passion, running, at the SCAHS. I am currently working as a part-time instructor for the Summer Study program at Penn State.
I try to express ideas in multiple ways, understanding that all students learn differently. I also try to provide real world examples to bring a ... read more

My goal in teaching is to help students understand how the scientific process affects them on a personal level. More About This Tutor...

As I am still a student myself, I bring a slightly unique perspective to tutoring. I know and appreciate the importance of a compelling instructor, who is both enthusiastic and intelligent, but also patient and understanding. I love the sciences, but I have not been working in the field for so long as to not remember the frustration most students feel when first grasping the founding principles. I strongly believe that learning is best facilitated through problem solving rather than rote memorization, especially within the sciences. Asking questions is far more important than answering them, and engendering a genuine interest in learning is paramount above all else.

I enjoy helping students find the writer within them! For example, a few of my own children were reluctant writers, so I developed a daily routine of assigning them to write a full page about anything they desired. The creativity surfaced with a vengeance, let me tell you! Showing the most resistant student how to grab the bull by its proverbial horns and conquer his fear of writing is so rewarding. Helping the academically-motivated, older student to shine as a writer is also a great feeling. Writing is the type of skill that is critical to all other subjects, and I love to equip students with a solid skill set!
As a junior and senior in college, my research papers consistently received the highest grades ever awarded by a certain professor with a reputation for being the toughest on campus. I subsequently became a successful trade journalist and marketing communications writer wi ... read more

I believe in an interactive learning environment where I am constantly asking students for their inputs and working through problems with them. This way, they become confident in their abilities to solve difficult problems and provoke critical thinking.
I am currently a graduate student in petroleum engineering. As an undergrad I worked as a mentor for a freshman in my major, helping him cope with school and advising him of the courses he needs to take. I also provide tutoring when needed. In high school I was part of a program called PEPP where high school students provided tutoring to middle school students. I was also involved in a program developed by my school's Honor Society where we tutor our peers in math and science courses. Additionally, I was a summer camp counselor for three summers and I was responsible for coordinating various activities for the children each week.

I have always desired to be a teacher. I graduated from Penn State in 1981 with an English degree and a music minor. I have since continued to take classes in both English and Music Education. I have taught all grades, tutored individuals and groups in summer school, and have a private studio as a music teacher. I have tutored students with reading difficulties for 20 years. As an English teacher, I have taken students on trips to see Shakespeare in the Park and to Pattee Library to learn to use reference materials. As a Music teacher, I have created performance opportunities for students from a coffee house format to recitals for the elderly. I believe in inspiring students to learn by empowering them to use their gifts.
