I love learning and the precision arts such as mathematics. This has driven me to begin in a computer career. I spent almost two decades applying my computer skills. Learning has never stopped for me. But then I love the outdoors and working with my hands. I have taught myself the carpentry trade and the concrete business. I started out by sitting down with the manuals and memorized the building codes before I built my own house. Recently I applied mathematics to a roof I was building. I believe that tutors are most effective as supplements to classroom teaching. It's my job to clear up questions that might not have been answered, or to take the time to explain the fundamental concepts necessary to continue with the material. I also believe that our time together is best served when the student has already attempted some work and comes prepared with specific questions. In a tutoring situation there is usually the immediate need (to pass a test) and the long term need to be able to succeed on their own.
