Tutoring for Life

I'm 24 and mother of a 1 year old (he may be with me while tutoring). I'm laid back and believe there is a natural process that must take place for us to learn and absorb new material. Not just memorize it for a test. However, test preparation is also one of my specialties which does involve more repetition and hands on useage. This could include parent approved trips. As a recent graduate from Clemson University's Calhoun Honors College, I deeply believe in the importance of education. A Little Bit About Me...

As I suffered through my younger years with Attention Deficit Disorder, I feel that it is extremely important to appeal to almost all of the senses when teaching. As for myself, I am definitely a visual learner, so I feel that visual aids are important. I am a big fan of hand outs in full color. You will often find me drawing a picture on the board. I feel it is important to hear it and see it, and if you can, touch it. Another important teaching style I implement, is watching my students and making sure they know how to do it. I am the kind of person who prefers to set aside that assembly instruction manual and put together that Christmas toy by laying out the pieces in an orderly fashion. There is so much pleasure in problem solving. I learn by asking myself questions. I have little patience for mundane drills and memorization if they can be avoided. Each child is different.
