I'm currently a student at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and I've covered many subjects in my 15 years of education. I've learned many of them well enough to teach them to my younger sister, who has ensured I review every subject two years after I complete it, rather than forget it forever. During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web.
I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I enjoy not only helping them learn, but also their backstory and considering how it affects their learning style. I have worked mainly with children, but enjoy teaching all ages. I tend to take a systematic approach and keep my lessons structured. I like to have students keep some sort of record of their practice time, as well as their progress. I also am a strong believer in making learning fun, so I try to listen to my students' needs and pay attention to their learning styles so I can create activities that they will not only find educational but fun as well.
