I graduated Magna Cum Laude and finished in the top ten in my class. In high school, I tutored Geometry and Algebra. In college, I tutored Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus. Currently, I’m working with my church on Tuesday afternoons where my mother developed a community outreach program with Central Elementary School where we tutor five K-2 graders in math and reading. A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children. I believe that all children can learn, but each child learns in a different way. In order to help a student, you must find out how they learn. You also must find their passion. With this information (passion and learning style), you can help any student succeed. Many of my students have been considered as slow, but once I began working with them, I realized that they just lacked the basic skills. This past year, all of my students have increased at least one grade level in reading and math. Many have achieved grade level performance.

In the beginning being a doctor was all that I desired. Helping others, tending to their wounds and etc was my dream. I have a passion and according to my students a gift for helping them make sense out of something they didn’t understand before. I believe that everyone has the ability to learn mathematics, but everyone doesn’t learn it the same way. I am a patient, intuitive person. I pick up on stressors and anxiety and I try to have students talk and work through those issues while learning. I have found that if a student can relax, they can learn.
Coming from a family of teachers and engineers, it was no surprise that I received a BS in Civil Engineering and pursued a career that would allow me to use my engineering degree and provide an avenue to teach. Teaching and training adults in a wide variety of technical topics, some that included mathematics, was a large part of my 15 year career as a Safety Engineer. In addition to teaching at work, for years I have worked with my son as well ... read more

Over the past six months I have been substitute teaching while pursuing my master's degree in elementary education. I am an avid reader and have experience, though not professional experience, in teaching children to read and write proficiently. I have worked closely with exceptional students in the role of a substitute teacher and believe that if given the opportunity I could thrive as a tutor.
Each individual learns in a different manner. Some students are visual learners, while others are better served by a hands-on environment. Using varied instructional strategies is a technique I have practiced when working with students who are struggling with a particular concept or subject matter. The key to learning is to be engaged in and excited about the learning process. If a student is struggling with a particular subject, establishing a connection to that subject is essential. ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is based on reading then reviewing. At that point in time ask questions to see if the student has grasped the information being given. If not, answer questions then clarify. When reviewing information it is important to make sure the student knows reasoning behind subject matter so that they are understanding logic and not just memorizing information. In subjects that invloves math such as probability, chemistry, or statistics, I would do a few examples followed by letting the tutee working a few problems.
