Biology is one of my top subjects! PhD molecular biology, major medical biological research

It is my task to make learning easier for you. Relying on my knowledge and experience I will guide you through the subject, point out the key concepts, models and ideas and show how a specific piece of information relates to something you already know. This approach ensures that new information is no scary and huge pile technical details but a sum of ideas that make sense and are easy to understand.
I have a total of 10 years active research experience in medical biological and basic biological research. I earned my PhD at the Institute for Pathology in Basel for medical biological research. Then I had postdoctoral appointments at Tulane University and Baylor College of Medicine. Also I taught introductory courses to biology students at the University of Basel, for which I received excellent student feed back.

My comments on tutoring Biology : Bachelor's Degree in Biology - concentration Biomedical Sciences and Nutrition

I like to have organization and structure while tutoring but I also am flexible and can change my approach on how I am helping the student based on his/her body language. If a student is bored and loves sports, after reading I love to go outside and play basketball with them while asking them questions about what we've just learned. Incorporating their interests in learning the subjects is important to me.
I have experience tutoring students at an elementary and middle school level in reading, Spanish and science and math. I have earned a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Nutrition and Spanish. I am currently in graduate school studying integrative medicine. I do have experience with tutoring students with special needs including students with autism.

My comments on tutoring Biology : Results Guaranteed!!!

I usually assessed where my students' weaknesses are and work from there. I make sure that the students are comfortable with the level that I am teaching and not feeling pressured by any difficulty but to make sure their interest in the subject is incited, having explained to them clearly and very thoroughly in an enjoyable way and yet learning to grasp the gist of the topic, overcoming any fear instilled by the areas of where the students' weaknesses lie, working on those, building up the students' confidence and skill in the subject, developing their potential to the utmost, and thus, naturally following it, with results guaranteed:)!
I have been tutoring science subjects since i was in high school until now, which makes it about 30 years tutoring experience:)!I was representing the Science Department of one of the top schools in Singapore, Anglo Chinese Singapore Secondary School ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Since attending college, I have been infatuated with teaching. To learn the best strategies for teaching chemistry to students, I took a course entitled, “Instructional Techniques in Chemistry,” and served as the sole laboratory instructor for two sections of general chemistry during my undergraduate studies. I have taught non-science major undergraduates, continuing education high school teachers, undergraduate chemistry majors, and graduate students in biochemistry and cell biology. I also served as a discussion leader for two years in general chemistry, which required me to hold weekly sessions that allowed students to ask questions pertaining to chemistry.
I use a wide variety of approaches to teach since different students grasp concepts in differ ways. This variety has helped me to adapt as the skill levels and backgrounds of my students changed. Some of the methods I ... read more

I am a graduate of a Christian University, and I have recently completed my certification training for me to be an elementary or Middle school teacher this fall. I have tutored elementary students prior in reading, phonics, and math. I have been a youth and children's pastor for five years, while also substitute teaching. I have taken many courses in English, psychology, child development, religion, math, and other courses. I also worked for 12 years as a mechanical designer in the aerospace industry.
I love working with children and youth. I believe all students can learn, but each are individuals with different capabilities. I believe as a teacher, it is my job to help your child learn to their best of their ability. I do this through assessing your child's learning style and providing lessons tailored to your child's needs. Learning should be fun, and I incorporate learning game ... read more

I've always had a love of learning, and have naturally slipped into an informal tutor role with friends. During high school I took several AP tests and at the same time earned the International Baccalaureate diploma, so I understand very well the pressures involved. My two bachelor's degrees (Computer Science & Engineering) give me a strong foundation in math and science. I have experience as a teaching assistant for undergraduates. In addition, for several summers I participated as a volunteer in my public library's reading program, working one-on-one with children of all ages. I feel quite confident in English thanks to my habit of recreational reading and writing, along with extensive experience writing papers, reports, and the like.
I firmly believe that you learn best when you're having fun. Once a topic fascinates you, your mind automatically engages more, which helps you ... read more

I have been actively involved in Church youth work for the past twenty years. During that time I have mentored two to three high school students per year in algebra, chemistry, biology and physics. Basic math and science is critical to their future success in our hi-tech world and if they are willing to learn, I am willing to teach. Teaching has always been part of my professional career and I authored several technical training manuals during my years as the senior research engineer for Mobil Oil. My educational background includes a PhD in Chemical Engineering and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Illinois.
I believe there is a major difference between teaching the student how to get a good grade and mastering the fundamental concepts that control math and science. When helping a student with Algebra, it is critical to asses their basic skills in mathematical opera ... read more

More About This Tutor...

My wife and I home-schooled our three children from 1993 until 2004. In addition, I was active in Scouts from 1994 until 2007 as Assistant Scoutmaster, Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor. These positions are supervisory in nature and involve both formal and informal teaching, mentoring and guiding. This experience also entailed several summer camps. My strengths are in the natural sciences, which formed the bulk of my work at UT, and English composition and grammar, as I gained extensive experience proofreading and writing essays for publication.
I typically employ the Socratic method: asking questions to discover what the student knows (or thinks he knows) and guiding his thinking toward discovering the knowledge himself. Both my three children and my Scouts have declared that they enjoy my teaching because it engages their interest and because it is frequently humorous ( ... read more

My teaching style has been to enthuse my students. I find the physical and mathematical models of the world to be fascinating, and try and show how exciting these models are to my listeners. Passing on that knowledge is incredibly rewarding, and I believe that I can present any scientific principal in an interesting way.
I have experience both tutoring degree level students in Geophysics and in mentoring junior programmers in programming C and C++. My science knowledge is second to none, and I am an extremely enthusiastic teacher. At school my strong math lead me to win the physics prize, and I continued with my interest in quantitative science through to my doctorate. Recently I have been developing my own software application, which uses both vector and matrix math in its design.

Biology and the life sciences are as interesting to me now as when I was in the fifth grade. My education is in microbiology which I have applied in the agrigricultural industry, diabetes research, and pharmaceutical diagnostics. I have been teaching biology and biotechnology classes for the past seven years in communty college and high school. My best asset as a teacher is finding a way to make the material interesting and relevant to my students.
As a teacher, I strive to motivate students and to encourage their desire to learn so they may ascertain their strengths and abilities. Encouraging and promoting the desire to learn – a natural gift of our childhood – is the keystone to achieving academic excellence, confidence, and creative problem-solving skills.
