Drawing is one of my top subjects! I teach the tools and skills to draw from life, from foundation level to advanced. Working from still life, the landscape and possibly any subject matter that interests the student, we will learn how to translate what we see into convincing and successful renditions in graphite pencil, charcoal, or pastel. We'll start with basic drawing skills, developing proportion, shading and composition and move on to tackling ambitious projects, capturing a convincing sense of light, and playing with the poetics of drawing. One-on-one attention is given in a supportive and creative atmosphere.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in both Studio Art and Psychology from Brandeis University, Boston, and continued my studies for two years at the Jerusalem Studio School in Jerusalem, Israel, as a member of the Master Class with Israel Hershberg. I then received my Master of Fine Arts from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and went on to teach at the Delaware College of Art and Design,Swarthmore College and Cornell College, as well as offering private lessons to all ages. I currently teach art online for the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
My teaching style is encouraging and stimulating. I love what I do and I really enjoy sharing my knowledge with others. I instruct specifically to the level of the student: from beginner to highly advanced. I've also been told that I'm pretty funny but you'll have to make up your own mind about that.

I attended Sarah Lawrence College, where I studied English and Spanish literature, Ancient Greek, history and philosophy. I graduated with an MFA in English from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop in May of 2008, and I am currently the Provost’s Post-Graduate Writing Fellow in fiction at the University of Iowa. I have had a passion for reading all of my life. I pursued a bachelor's degree in English from the University of Wisconsin, which I received in 1973. I have taught children of all ages and disabilities in all academic areas. I prefer working with younger students. I have been published in a national education journal, "The Clearinghouse." I have worked extremely hard to develop a well rounded educational background. I have earned a BS in Exercise Science, with a minor in Business Administration. I'm a strong believer in the Gardner's ideas of many different learning styles and types of intelligent. Some students are better audio, tactile, or visual learners. I feel it is the teacher's responsibility to find the best learning style for each student and build on that format through scaffolding. I love nothing better than to see the light bulb go off in a students mind. This also helps them to realize that learning can be a fun adventure.

I'm a student at Augustana College whose academic record has ranged from public school to home schooling to community college and and even private education. I've worked as a tutor for over 2 years at Black Hawk College, at the same time obtaining an Associates Degree. Throughout those years I've encountered many special needs students and many bright students, tutoring in subjects ranging from English, Math, Social Studies, to Computer Science.
I believe the best way to learn is peer-to-peer learning. As an auto-didact I have the study skills necessary to regurgitate information as taught by the current institutional models. This is an uncreative and highly unnatural way to learn. There's a reason no major discovery was made in a classroom -- true innovation, discovery and learning is an organic process.
