I have a BA in Theatre Arts, a minor in Dance, and have received a Montessori Certification from NAMC. However, I learned the fundamentals of teaching (being on time, prepared, patient, and encouraging) from my first job as a dance teacher while I was still in high school. After University, I taught ESL in Korea for three years, as well as developed curriculum for a set of nationwide schools. In addition to that, I tutored students privately outside of the classroom. I believe that children must be engaged in the subject matter before successful learning takes place. Finding fun, interesting, and personal ways for the child to connect to the topic will truly allow them a chance to learn and retain information. I love finding different ways for individual learners to understand what they are being taught. I am a senior in the Education program at Appalachian State University. As an Elementary Education major, I have worked closely with children from many age levels. I have participated in an after-school tutor/mentor program at Appalachian State in 2008.
