Being a flexible and kindhearted educator I have enjoyed all the teaching opportunities presented to me; including working with diverse groups of students with multiple disabilities. I have been teaching for 21 years now (wow, that's gone by fast!) and I love every second of what I do. I have also been a tutor in the district for the past 9 years, tutoring every subject possible--math, English, Social Studies, etc. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to get to know students who don't take French and also I love to teach other subjects outside my own area. Teaching is the best job there is--I get such a great energy from my students every day! I rarely miss a day of school, and I look forward to going in to work every morning. Everyone should be so lucky to have a job they absolutely love!
My teaching style.... depends on the day, depends on the students, depends on the topic. One minute I can be dancing around the room and the next we're having a more serious discussion. My expectations are very high and I always push my students to do "just a bit bet ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

If I am tutoring a young person I contact the teacher so that I can find out what areas the student needs review in. Many times the teacher will give me the resources and materials to use. Also, I like to use the guide books for each grade that are sold in stationary areas of most stores. For tutoring in reading I've found the Leapfrog Reading Program is very helpful. I like to meet my students at the library so that I can use the resources found in the library, including the computer. Many times I use educational games because are very useful tools in learning, and they are fun.
I graduated from Finger Lakes Community College with an AA in Elementary Education. I passed the NYS Teacher's Assistant Skills Test in 2006. I worked at BOCES as a tutor. I tutored high school, middle school and elementary school students. I also worked in the BOCES classrooms as a tea ... read more

My teaching style is one on one with students making continuous progress at their own paces. I love to work with elementary students aged ten and under. Working with non-tradionat students was fun and challenging. I had to relate to them differently (of course) from the younger kids.
I taught Office Technology to adults for ten years. I have been subbing K-6 for the past two years in local school districts. Adult educations consisted of computer applications, business math and English, filing, and job search skills. Now I work with kids who have difficulty in a traditional setting.

A Little Bit About Me...

My "style" is whatever the student needs. Since each level of education has its own complications, and each student has a different learning capability, my approach must be flexible. I basically reword and redefine until I can see the proverbial light bulb go off. That is the greatest satisfaction in the world!
I have volunteered as a tutor/mentor/teachers aid, full time, from 1983 through 1989. I returned to college and received my Bachelor's Degree in Accounting in 1993 and passed the CPA exam in 1994, receiving my license to open my own firm in 1999. I continue to coach and mentor my clients in the finer and larger points of accounting.

More About This Tutor...

I have always been a patient teacher and have learned that each child has there own learning style. To better tutor a child, they need to be able to learn in their own style. I understand this and will do my best to target their style to allow them to learn in a way that is easy and fun for them. I try to apply what is being learned into every day life to keep the interest in the subject, I feel that to learn the student needs to understand that the subject really is important in everyday life.
Throughout college, I was a substitute teacher at the local elementary and middle school where I worked with the children in the classroom environment. I also worked one on one with children that were having a difficult time in their classwork. I am currently teaching third grade in Newark, NY. This is my fifth year at this grade level. I have also had three years of experience working with students with disabilities. I currently teach in all subject areas. I have a degree in “Arts for Children”, which involves integrating the arts into the curriculum. With this, I have spent time differentiating my instruction to meet the needs of my students. In addition, I have worked with struggling readers who read significantly below grade level and I have worked hard to prepare my students for New York State Exams. I have a very strong passion for helping students and guiding them in becoming independent learners.

To serve students in a tutorial setting, I first determine a student's current level of understanding. As specific gaps in understanding are identified, targeted instruction is used to fill in those gaps. Many times work on fundamental concepts or mechanics is required to achieve true and lasting success in the content area. Students that are willing to complete the foundational work I will leave them with based on their identified weaknesses, will develop the fastest and improve their skills and confidence. I will invest time and energy into all my students, however I require that they also invest in themselves by remediating weaknesses we discover.
I have taught high school math for over twelve years. I tutor math and chemistry students. I hold degrees in engineering (BS Civil Engineering, MS Environmental Engineering) and education (MA Educational Administration). My engi ... read more

I enjoy teaching, especially on a one-to-one basis. I firmly believe that the more interactive teaching is, the more effective it is, and therefore, there is greater retention.

A Little Bit About Me...

Once in a classroom I realized that I was meant to teach. I love working with students who are challenging and those who challenge me. I believe that I can become a better teacher only by continually challenging myself and my students. The key phrase “engaging students” seems less than what is required in the classroom. I want my students to be engaged but I want them to encompass and enjoy what they are doing as well. I love technology and new method topics; I have a very strong math and science background as well as excellent written and verbal presentation skills. I was a hands on learner and often use hands on methods to teach when possible. I have taught every level from kindergarten to college level and feel comfortable doing so.
I am interested in tutoring because I love teaching regardless of the subject matter. I’ve been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to try se ... read more
