Math, Science & Microsoft Excel tutor

I have two technical-college degrees, I worked my way through both of them being a math tutor, and have used math and science in some way in every job I've ever held. As for my "teaching style", as everyone knows, it helps enormously just to have another person to work with, ask questions of, and generally talk things through. And since Im not a professional teacher, Im mostly a working tech--maybe I can help you see the connections between the abstract science & math the way its taught in school, and how that knowledge actually applies in the workplace (and in life.)

A Little Bit About Me...

After completing my degree in 2007 at the University of New Mexico, I moved to Denver, CO and taught for one year at Morey Middle School. Since the school is only 5 blocks from the Capitol building and a multitude of museums and libraries, I was able to tutor a few students from the school in a real-world environment. I have a secondary endorsement in mathematics, and my 24+ credit hours in science allow me to teach general science in Colorado. I am moving to Albuquerque in a couple weeks, where I have accepted a position at Cottonwood Classical Preparatory School, a very exciting new liberal arts charter school in the heart of the city.

My style of teaching, especially with tutoring, is to find out what kind of learner my student is: tacit, oral, or verbal. Then the lesson style can be geared to that, while leading the student to become more aware of the other abilities and options. Also, it is imperative that students understand why they are learning what is being presented to them. Cause and effect leads to greater awareness and more objective, analytical, and critical thinking. As an elementary school teacher that focuses on helping diverse populations, I have extensive experience. I have worked with English language learners, and have worked a great deal with students who have learning disabilities. I am a trained consultant with the Wright Group (in math), have TESA training, and currently exclusively teach math to four groups of fifth graders.
