I find that presenting and explaining works best for language arts and history, concept teaching works best for science, and direct instruction works best for mathematics. That’s the reason some are faster to learn mathematical concepts while others are faster in literary concepts. I believe in going slow and asking my students to explain what they’ve learned in their own words. If they can do this easily it means they have mastered the concepts.
