To begin with ,my interest in tutoring started after I volunteer to work for Americorps. I helped students in reading and writing. During my assignment with Americorps,I had the opportunity in acquiring skills which has helped me in tutoring. I was assigned to work as a summer associate instructor for reading and mathematics. I participated in literacy program in which I assisted children who had trouble in reading and writing. After Americorps,I decided to pursue career in educational setting in which I worked as an instructional assistant at the ESL office.
My teaching style is that I provided one-on-one instruction and in addition to that I work as substitute teaccher for English as a second language.

There are no dumb questions, only ignorant teachers!

I believe in teaching all subjects using innovative methods that are tailored to the specific student. I have taught C++ programming through the use of robots, chemistry with cosmetics, and physics with music. I begin by listening to the student and understanding exactly what level they are at. I then develop a plan of action to get them to the level they need to be at for the grades they want. I don't believe that there is any such thing as a dumb question, only ignorant teachers. As such, my sucess is not based off of how well I explained the subject, but on how well the student understood. I will spend how many hours it takes to equip a student with the knowledge they need to take control of their own success.

I convey to each student a never give up attitude and show confidence in their ability to understand the material. Each problem will be explained to the student and I will encourage every student to ask questions. After the student gains confidence in working problems together then I will have the student work a similar problem by themselves to confirm their level of understanding. After the student works the problem I will go over it and correct any mistakes in their work .
I have an engineering background with a BS and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering. An engineering degree requires a significant background in math and science. I enjoy teaching, I find it to be one of the most rewarding expeirences not only for the learner but for the teacher as well. Although my experience is with adult learners, I would welcome the opportunity to work with children. I had an opportunity to volunteer as a big sister for the BBBS organization and I really enjoyed the interaction between myself and my 5th grade mentee. As far as my teaching style, I try not to limit the learner or myself to any one particular style. I believe everyone has a unique and idividual way of learning. What works for one person may not work for another. There are many approaches and methods of teaching, some learners are visual while others may be more participative. My style of teaching is centered around the learner, I leave it up to the learner to determine what my style will be. I am always very excited about the opportunity to learn ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I believe anyone can learn any subject as long as they have the right tools to succeed. The right teacher can make a hard subject seem easy. My main goal in teaching is to make students feel they have the ability to be successful in the courses they are taking. I do the above by being very positive, patient, and encouraging. From my years of taking extremely hard college courses, I have learned study skills that allowed me to do more than simply memorize material but to actually learn and retain the subject matter. I pass down what I have learned to every student I tutor, which helps them not only in the courses we work on but also in any course they will ever take.
For the last three years I have worked as a physics and mathematics tutor. Unlike most tutors I have experience teaching on the college level. I worked as an assistant physics professor at Eastern Kentucky University du ... read more

As a former academic scholarship student at Western Kentucky University, I have a keen understanding of what it takes to succeed at the highest level even under immense stress. I am also well versed in the English language, History, and Drama.
