I am a very hands on learner so I like to get students actively involved in their learning. However, I understand that some people like taking notes and are more of a visual learner. I am very capable of approaching tutoring in this manner if that is what the student prefers.

In my 6 years of teaching experience I’ve come to find out that there is no such thing as a “stupid question.” Each child or adult has a specific way of learning according to their own character. That’s the reason some are faster to learn mathematical concepts while others are faster in literary concepts. I believe in going slow and asking my students to explain what they’ve learned in their own words. If they can do this easily it means they have mastered the concepts. I usually encourage pre-reading before tutoring sessions. A student who has read the chapter ahead will absorb information more easily than one who has not read ahead.
I obtained a high honors degree (Magna Cum Laude) in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry in 2005. Due to an outstanding GPA (3.74/4.00), I began to teach even as an undergraduate student. I was hired by the Athletics Department to help my fellow studen ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently a student at Wright State University; I will have a Bachelor’s degree in biology at the end of summer 2010. I have taken several classes in Cell biology, Molecular biology, Animal biology and Plant biology. I have also had a year of anatomy and a year of physics. The research papers, lab reports, analytical reports and essays that I have written have given me a comprehensive vocabulary and considerable grammatical skills. In the past two years I have assisted in my church’s youth ministry as a Sunday school teacher. I have also more recently been tutoring at an inner city school in Dayton with kindergarteners and fourth graders in math and language.
I love teaching and sharing my love of science with others. Children learn in many different ways; some through reading, some through diagrams, and some through repetition. I enjoy trying to figure out how each chi ... read more

Throughout my high school career I have been devoted to academic success of my fellow classmates as well as my self. Along the way of my academic success I have acquired multiple skills in every subject that has added to my love of learning and discovering. Over a fifteen year period I have used the knowledge that I have obtained to aid in others in their own pursuit of academic achievement.
I take the necessary time to learn the behavior and learning ability of the child in order to customize a teaching style that will be most beneficial. I believe that the most effective type of relationship between a teacher and a student is friendship to reduce any anxieties that may otherwise hinder the child’s progress. More About This Tutor...

My education includes degrees in Biology, Environmental Science, and Education. Some of my coursework included botany, zoology, chemistry, physics, ecology, scientific methods and writing. As an environmental consultant for the past 23 years, I’ve conducted scientific studies, written reports, managed a team, and worked with the public. I've also taught science at the college-level. Two favorite classes were “Spring Flora” and “Trees and Shrubs”. Both were freshman courses that introduced mostly non-science majors to their first experience with the natural sciences. Overall, I'm enthusiastic about teaching and believe that my real-life experience provides a unique learning opportunity.
I love science and love to teach! I believe that teaching is an intentional effort. It’s not just about presenting information, but also about motivating. I set high standards, but also emphasize tha ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a French native speaker. I gave private tutoring lessons at the University Language Center to adults and their families as well as students preparing for the Graduate Proficiency Test (GPT) at the University of Minnesota. I was committing 2 to 3 hours a week of ESL, math and science tutoring junior high students from immigrant family background at Abraham Lincoln High School. My dedication made me noticed and recognized by the principal of the school which allowed me to work as an ESL teacher in the summer of 2004. In all my tutoring experience I have been extremely successful, in getting my students to pass the GPT, in achieving goals for the adults and their families, as well as for the kids from minority communities.
I have a friendly teaching style; I use a lot of sense of humor. But, this takes a lot of hard work to achieve. The reason I am able to teach French gramma ... read more
