I began working with children at the age of 10 in the capacity of babysitter/activities director. As a teen I began working in daycare centers and have worked in the capacity of teacher/assistant teacher/ director/owner. My comments on tutoring Florida Writes : I have some experience with teaching writing skills at the middle school level and as part of the GED.

My style is student centered. I always try to provide a positive atmosphere for learning. My jokes were a technique to help accomplish that goal. As a GED teacher I always began with a pretest and documented student progress to correct any deficiencies. I believe in positive reinforcement and helping students achieve their goals which gives us both a sense of accomplishment.
I am an honors graduate of U.S.F. with forty years of teaching experience. In addition to my B.A. and M.A. degrees, I completed all cousework for the ED.D. Teaching students and adults has been a rewarding experience. Most people don't realize there is a difference in learning to read and reading to learn. Both are complicated processes for students that are cognitively challanged and students who have never spoken English. When the student can truly read for themselves their sense of accomplishment and self-worth skyrockets. Seeing others enjoy reading as much as I do is a good feeling.
