My comments on tutoring Study Skills : There are so many study "tricks" .... what is the best for your learning style?

I believe that grammar and punctuation are critical in written expression. I am very focused on the learning style of the student and will begin with most student making that determination and connection with the student. I also work well with students who are dyslexic, have ADD/ADHD, and who are left-handed. I attempt to build a relationship with the student so that are willing to listen, learn, and work to master their assignment and/or skill. Meeting students where they are academically and not "where they are supposed to be." Allow the student to lead the way and discover the answers and pathways to knowledge and skill.

I like to give examples of problems, and "problem solve" with the student through illustrative examples on paper or on the board. I encourage questions and feedback to ensure that the young person is indeed learning "how" to solve a problem, not simply to "get" a solution.
