I like children to learn through exploring. This is not to say that I do not teach, but I plan lessons in a way that allows students to learn at their own pace. I feel like if I can put together a lesson that gives children a motivation to learn, they will learn on a deeper level than if I am merely telling them information. With my middle school math students whom I tutored, this meant that we learned about fractions through art. It was not enough to explain to them how fractions worked, I realized that they needed to experience fractions. We spent the same amount of time as the regular class did on fractions, but my students were able to better explain their work. I have experience across the boards. I love to teach and see the ideas light up the eyes of the person who suddenly got a concept. I think teaching should be adaptable and should fit the learning style of the student. Visual tasks, memory games, and hands-on-learning are, in my opinion, the best way to help someone truly learn (versus rote memory).
