I love how all types of people have different ways of learning. I am very good at adapting to find out how best the person learns, so its not simply a boring exercise--more of the same, if you will. Everyone deserves a chance to learn, and learn well, no matter what their circumstance or current education level. Everyone can succeed if they have the proper attitude and teaching. As teachers and tutors, we have the responsibility of making sure we can do everything we can to ensure everybody has a great, enjoyable experience.
Graduating from BYU-Idaho, I've learned that a quality education is of the utmost importance, not only for college-age students, but starting from infancy. I've earned my BS in Health Science, enabling me to have a greater knowledge of the health and wellness field in general. Also, I've learned to publish various professional research papers, adding ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a business major I learned alot about the importance of language and communication. I took classes in english, and writing. I was a tutor for over 100 students for 2 years in finance and taght a class twice a week on Microsoft Excel. In high school I volunteered at an elementary school to help children with ADD and behavioral issues for 3 trimesters. I was a staff member at Cedar Badge, a week long leadership training course for scouts, teaching leadership skills.
I like to have visuals. They are important no matter what age. i use powerpoint, pictures, think of stories, and try to get the students involved as much as they can. People either learn, by seeng, doing, or both, so it is good to teach using all of the learning tools.

Teaching college students has been very rewarding. I encourage active participation in discussion and groups. Each class is started with a question and answer period about any nutrition issue they might have. Most assignments have an aspect of self discovery so that each student can learn something about their nutrition status. Late work is not allowed and attendance is not taken; rather random "reflection" responses are asked to reward those that attend and to ascertain their understanding of the concepts discussed. Each student can excel when the effort is made.
As an adjunct faculty member at Brigham Young University Idaho since 1995 (it was then Ricks College), I have taught human nutrition, nutrition and the young child, introduction to foods, nutrition for the culinary arts majors, and various classes for the dietetic technician program. I earned my Dietetics degree in 1985 a ... read more

I specialize in math and science. These fields have complex ideas that I know are hard to approach as a student. Often times, students fail to see the real life applications of higher level math, and this can be a frustration. I emphasize the real life examples and applications of complex math and science. I believe anyone can understand math and science if they have a patient, understanding, and insightful mentor who can break down concepts into simple steps. I try my best to do these things when teaching others.
Recently, I graduated with my BS degree in physics. This major requires a working knowledge of advanced mathematics, and its application to real life scenarios. Working in physics frequently requires learning complex concepts, and being able to explain those concepts to peers for feedback. My degree required I write a senior thesis. Working on my senior thesis he ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I knew I wanted to be a teacher from the time that I was a Kindergartner. That may seem to be a silly dream for a five-year-old, but I have always loved education. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in April of 2010, and my Idaho Teaching Certificate in September of 2010. I am state certified to teach all subjects for grades Kindergarten through 8th grade. I have a musical background, mostly vocal, and experience with children who have ADD/ADHD and Tourette's Syndrome. I have a passion for reading, and so follows a passion for teaching reading and comprehension. I am also literate in Spanish, having taken 7 years of Spanish classes myself.
If they are willing, and if they are taught correctly, every child can learn. No two children are the same, and should not be taught as such. There are so many different ways to teach and understand a concept, and I try to se ... read more

I believe in the Socratic Method. Through this tutoring method, the student is asked questions to help them develop understanding on their own. Through this discovery style, the students actually learn in ways that will be remembered most. I believe that any child, teenager, or adult can learn most effectively through their own discovery, with my help and guidance. I believe in having "ah-ha!" moments, and the feeling of relief and excitement when connections are made, and learning happens. That's what I want for my students.
My degree consists of two areas of emphases: English and the Humanities, with a minor in Dance. Through the course of my study, I have learned how to be a better writer, understand and appreciate literature, religions, and cultures of the world. I have always had a strong desire to learn and share with others the knowledge that I have. I enjoy being around people, especially ones that are eager to learn. With my experience of working with people with learning disabilities, I have learned to become very patient and understanding of other peoples learning needs. I have also learned how to provide an environment that best fits the student’s needs. I feel that the best way for people to learn is through doing things on their own. As a tutor, I feel as though I act as a guide for the student to discover their own knowledge. I love helping other learn. It is very satisfying to me to see the students understand the material and succeed.

I am currently a student at Brigham Young University - Idaho where I am pursuing a degree in Biology with minors in Child Studies and Chemistry. This rigorous program has taught me the importance of fulfilling one's potential, the vitality of good study habits, as well as giving me an understanding of children and adolescents. The past two years I have participated in a youth summer program for high school-aged students. I was responsible for giving both formal and informal instruction in leadership skills, self-esteem, and religion. Since last year I have tutored college students in math, specifically in Algebra and Statistics.
