A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching when there is a bit of a challenge getting the student to understand the concept. As I have mentioned, I can use different styles to help the student get the concept. I have a great deal of patience and believe that everyone can learn. I enjoy the way someone looks after they have understood and mastered an idea.
I tutored all subjects - especially in Math all through High School. I also tutored in college. I have strong skills in Math - all levels - but I especially enjoy algebra. I have two children and I basically taught my oldest son math, since he was a different kind of learner than the way they teach at school. He is a very kinesthetic type learner and needs to see, feel and touch to understand the concepts - so I used a lot of tools to help him. I can tutor math and science exceptionally well and other subjects for the younger levels.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am extremely patient and work hard to communicate the concepts that students need to understand to truly achieve their learning objectives. My belief is that a tutor, or any teacher, is a role model not only for understanding the subject at hand, but in the manner in which they work with students, using a tactful, understanding approach at all times. In general, I guide the student, using questions along the way to assess their level of understanding, in addition to exercises and problem-solving related to the subject.

My whole life I have had a love of education. I look forward to sharing this love with students and teaching them that learning need not be something to be feared. I am a very adaptable teacher who can easily modify my teaching to work for a variety of learners. My style uses a constructivist approach in which all students are viewed as unique individuals and are expected to take an active role in their education. Most importantly to me, I embrace mistakes and help my students to understand that mistakes as simply part of the learning process and not a dead end. I love biology. You will too. My students will become experts in their fields, but they are not there yet. It is not my style to throw them in the deep end and hope they can hear me yelling commands. It is my style to jump in and swim with them until they take off on their own. It is my desire to teach because it is here that I can know my students and personally be a part of their success. Many of them will become successful and stay in the community. I will see them in the supermarket. I will always be reminded of whether I have done my job. Others will go on to four year schools and become research scientists. Those I will read about to my next group of students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with all students and have tutored students for the past 4 years in the AVID program. Additionally, I tutored and served as a writing to coach to high-school and college students during my off time. My focus is helping students understand how to aptly address course assignments, how to structure and assemble essays, term papers and research papers and how to decipher themes and motifs in classic readings for assigned papers. My method is to guide students to becoming skilled writers through the editing process and use of an explanatory narrative. I believe the best learning is taught in a manner that encourages and supports students to find their own way as life-long learners.
